Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama is seeking applications for 2 part-time, hourly, fixed-term Scenic Technician positions. The appointment will begin on August 15, 2025, and conclude on May 15, 2026.
Hours will vary week to week, with some periods approaching full-time and others with little to no scheduled work. This fluctuation is based on the production phases of different projects. A projected calendar can be provided upon request.
This a dynamic opportunity for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment. You will contribute to the school by providing vital educational support by working alongside student technicians and managers in the fabrication, installation, and striking of scenery for the School of Drama productions.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:
Fabrication of theatrical scenery
Assist with the installation of productions in theater spaces
Materials handling, installation, and assembly, and theatrical counterweight rigging practices
Read drawings and work unsupervised
Other similar duties as assigned
YOU MUST DEMONSTRATE:
Carpentry, rigging, and metals skills
Ability to understand and follow directions
Work well under pressure and pay close attention to detail
Ability to work well with students

1-3 years of relevant work experience
