Job Description

Under the direction and supervision of the Maintenance supervisor, the Maintenance Technician is responsible for the day-to-day execution of maintenance activities below. In addition to the following, employees are responsible for understanding the relevance and importance of the individual’s activities in contributing to food safety, and reporting situations that may impact food.

Statement of the Job:

Be able to perform duties of maintenance in a way that is consistent with pilot plant and plant policy and standards. The employee must have the following qualifications:

· Partner with other pilot plant technicians and maintenance personnel on critical work needs for the SBM pilot plant.

· Completion of monthly Preventative Maintenance work.

· Input and execute maintenance work orders.

· Complete daily rounds and readings of equipment in pilot plant areas.

· Installation or repair of building fixtures including: doors, piping, and light masonry work.

· A good understanding of HVAC, steam piping, electrical work, and high pressure steam

· Basic welding, fabrication, and pipe-fitter skills preferred

· General mechanical abilities required.

· Knowledge of food processing equipment and understanding of operation and safety protocols.

· Complete daily rounds and readings of equipment in pilot plant areas.

· Support projects with internal team and third-party contractors.

· Ability to complete computer work and utilize specific maintenance and purchase order systems.

· Ability to inspect equipment and products for cleanliness, foreign material, etc.

Responsibilities:

The employee is responsible for the following duties:

· Perform the duties of general maintenance area consistent with planned policies and standards with respect to product quality, GMPs, and safety.

· Responsible for upkeep and safe operation of all shop equipment, shop tools, and necessary pilot plant equipment and SBM equipment.

· Responsible for answering trouble calls and performing preventative maintenance in areas designated by the Maintenance Supervisor and Pilot Plant Manager.

· Other duties as assigned by the supervisor, which may include assignments to other departments or areas of the pilot plant or Morton Grove plant for indefinite periods of time.

· Responsible for communicating project and work order status to department and cross-functional employees.

· Responsible for time management and project deadlines.

· Responsible for balancing multiple project priorities and accommodating requests or change in schedule.

Safety Responsibility:

Responsible for wearing proper PPE, compliance of safety training, policy & procedures, and reporting any unsafe safety conditions to management.

Quality Responsibility:

Participate in the KHMS audit and assist in the development of procedures and corrective actions.

Equipment Operated:

Fork trucks, welding equipment, power tools, production operating equipment across pilot plants, EAM computer system.

Responsibility of Equipment Operated:

Responsible for ensuring equipment is in a safe and operable condition and must operate equipment in a safe manner.

Lifting Requirements

Lifting of up to 5-50 pounds may be required. Employees should use assisted lifting techniques / devices or teamwork for equipment greater than 50 pounds.

Training And Experience:

Employees will be trained in this position. The employee must have the experience required in the qualifications above.

· 5+ years in the field preferred

· Must at least have a HS diploma or GED, associates / trades certifications preferred

· Computer Skills

o Demonstrative knowledge and experience using EAM systems in areas of work orders, parts, hours, etc.

o Must have the ability to learn additional EAM system requirements as system progresses or applications change

o Ability to use spreadsheets, databases (e.g. Microsoft, Excel, etc.) and analytical tools
