The administrator manages the SAP transport system. The administrator is responsible for
installation, upgrade, and maintenance of SAP systems. The administrator creates, implements and
assigns or removes user authorization roles as agreed with business. The administrator is
responsible for backup and recovery of the SAP systems within the overall IT architecture of the
organisation’s infrastructure. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS (KPA’s)
1. Systems AdministrationPerforms all required systems administration routines, installations of system, checking critical operational criteria, server status, systems capacity, usage rates, bottlenecks, authorised users, etc.
Verifies that servers are functional and running continuously at all times, thereby ensuring that users have access to network resources, e.g. SAP R/3, printers, by scrutinizing the event log on a regular basis by logging into servers.
Required to translate business objectives into specific infrastructure requirements and developments.
Determines upgrade and replacement cycles as derived from cost/benefit as well as technology development cycles.
Performs upgrades and configuration, applies systems patches and carries out all relevant technical improvements on the systems.
Checks potential systems security threat from hackers by maintaining and monitoring firewall.
Maintain servers, e.g. errors, disc space, etc. and ensures that regular back-ups are made.
Assists with the taking of corrective steps as required.Keep server software up-to-date by installing updates and fixes as required.
Does development work as required to ensure that all users have trouble free access to the servers.
Assists with the coaching of Service Desk Agents on installations for users and fault finding and how to make corrections if required.
Completes the necessary documentation and ensures that installation and hardware is recorded fully with IT records.
Ensures acceptance testing of improvements / additions to the network/components and/or infrastructure, and only accepts the final product when it performs to acceptable standards.
2. Backup and recovery
Ensuring that the necessary and appropriate backup strategy is in place, and that backups are executed successfully at the desired time intervals.
Ensures that disaster recovery procedures are in place and are tested.
Ensures that that backup and recovery strategy meets business needs in terms of system recoverability.
3. Authorisations
Creates User Accounts for logging into the SAP R/3 systems and allocates required rights to accounts.
Assists as required to ensure at all times that user profiles are adhered to.
