Job Overview:

The SAP ABAP Consultant – T4(A) is a senior-level technical role responsible for the design, development, enhancement, and support of SAP applications using ABAP and related technologies. This role requires strong programming skills, deep knowledge of SAP modules (such as MM, SD, FI, and HR), and the ability to work across a complex technical landscape that includes SAP ECC, S/4HANA, and integrated third-party systems.

This position is ideal for a motivated and detail-oriented SAP professional who excels in performance-driven environments and seeks to ensure high-quality SAP deliverables across all phases of development.

Key Responsibilities:

ABAP Development & Enhancements:

Design, develop, and maintain custom ABAP programs including reports (ALV), interfaces, conversions, enhancements, forms (SAPScript, SmartForms, Adobe Forms), and workflows.

Develop and support User Exits, BADI implementations, BAPIs, and RFCs across SAP modules.

Perform code optimization and troubleshooting to improve performance and system efficiency.

Translate functional requirements into technical specifications and provide estimates for development activities.

S/4HANA & Modern ABAP:

Experience in S/4HANA ABAP development, including CDS Views, AMDPs, and Fiori/UI5 integrations.

Hands-on experience with Eclipse-based ABAP Development Tools (ADT).

Knowledge of HANA database structures and performance tuning in an S/4HANA environment.

Exposure to REST/OData service development and integration.

Technical Documentation & Standards:

Ensure compliance with SAP coding standards and naming conventions.

Create and maintain detailed technical documentation including design specs, test cases, and operational procedures.

Conduct peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.

Integration & Interface Development:

Design and implement integration solutions using IDocs, ALE, BAPIs, Proxies, and Web Services.

Collaborate with middleware teams for interfaces involving PI/PO, CPI, and third-party systems.

Troubleshoot interface issues and ensure data consistency across systems.

Testing & Support:

Perform unit testing, support system integration testing (SIT), and assist during user acceptance testing (UAT).

Provide production support and resolve issues in a timely manner to meet SLA requirements.

Monitor performance and implement preventive maintenance to minimize downtime.

Technical Leadership and Mentoring:

Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for SAP ABAP development practices and tools.

Mentor junior developers and review their deliverables for quality and adherence to standards.

Participate in design reviews and guide the team in adopting best development practices.

Evaluate and implement tools and techniques to improve the ABAP development process.

Collaboration and Communication:

Work closely with functional consultants, business analysts, and end-users to understand requirements and deliver robust solutions.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Basis, Security, and Infrastructure.

Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to project status updates and risk discussions.

Core SAP ABAP Skills:

8–10 years of experience in SAP ABAP development in enterprise environments.

Experience in SAP ECC and S/4HANA environments.

Strong expertise in classical and object-oriented ABAP.

Knowledge of key SAP modules (SD, MM, FI, HR, PP, PM).

Strong debugging and performance tuning skills.

Educational Background and Certifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

SAP ABAP Certification is highly preferred.

Exposure to ITIL practices is a plus.

Knowledge of Agile methodologies and DevOps principles is desirable.
