1. Purpose of Job
Reporting to the Managing Director, the role holder will lead, and hold managerial responsibility for, all aspects of the Sales functions within the UK ensuring that it meets applicable strategic and operational business objectives.
The role holder is responsible for the development and success of the UK division including the achievement of all financial, operating and people related goals.
2. Competence (Knowledge, Skills and Proven Ability Required)
Internal. The ability to lead a business function and manage a team, in addition to participating as a team member within the UK Management team. Excellent communication, influencing and collaboration ability will be required to effectively interface with other operational and financial functions within the UK division. Thrives in a challenging and increasingly international work environment where the ability to manage and influence and effect change across the full scope of the UK Division’s sales activities is key to success. External. First-hand experience in business development discussions and negotiations with customers and other sales channel partners in a similar business-to-business industry. Possess advanced skills in presenting, report writing, communication and people/relationship management. Specific Technical Expertise. Core skills in all commercially related business, financial and sales disciplines. Strong demonstrated ability to lead and manage a sales team in a business-to business environment including a deep understanding of sales process, negotiation, customer relationship management and key account management. Further, the ability to understand and clearly present technical information and manage distribution channels to market is important.Qualifications and Proven Ability. Minimum degree level education in a relevant subject is essential. Skills and aptitudes are required such as will provide a deep understanding of complex principles and practices mainly applicable across a department/division.
Personal Qualities. The role actively engages with virtually all aspects of the business and therefore core to this will be unquestionable credibility in the role based on strong leadership and people management capabilities. Typical personal attributes would include drive, perseverance, diplomacy, bias for change and action, results focus, and international communication and social skills.
The Sales Director role demands regular customer interaction and because of this, a sense of responding with urgency should prevail reinforced through leading by example.
General. National travel is a requirement.
4. Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Responsible for short and long-term strategic development of all Sales activities across the UK division in line with the targeted requirements of the business and of the customer. Researching, analysing and setting price points to maximise sales and maintain healthy profit margins Responsible for leading and managing the direction, priorities and performance of the respective Sales teams. Responsible for managing the appointment, development and performance of sales channel partners to best serve target markets in the UK. Responsible for the definition, development and actioning of a strategic plan for UK Sales, both existing and identifying new sales strategies, to integrate into the total Europe Business Plan. Specifically driving, monitoring and reporting of key performance indicators and the development of continuous improvement plans for the business in terms of sales performance. Develop sales plans, budgets and forecasts. Responsible for providing market intelligence, ensuring that the needs of the UK business are communicated and then supported both in terms of product requirements and also marketing services provided, and engaging in appropriate market support activity (e.g. exhibitions, conferences, etc.). Responsible for acting at all times in a manner which promotes the health and safety of all personnel. Specifically, this involves: Directing and promoting progress of current safety programs and associated procedural requirements in a manner defined by Company standards. Promoting safety awareness across all activities. Participating in the implementation and maintenance of the Group Safety Procedure and contributing to the formulation of Group Company management
