Job Title: Payload Safety Engineer

Job Description

The Payload Safety Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in coordinating with both internal and external Mission Managers to address safety-related concerns and processes. This position ensures the completion and approval of the Payload safety processes for flight, as well as the Aerospace Missile Systems Prelaunch Safety Package (MSPSP). The primary objective is to ensure flight certification for Aerospace payloads and compliance with agency safety requirements. Key to this role is fostering strong relationships across all organizational levels, from leadership to individual workers, to support the adoption of best-in-class compliance methods.

ResponsibilitiesReview Payload Data and develop Aerospace Missile Systems Prelaunch Safety Package (MSPSP).Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to acquire necessary data for safety compliance.Develop Aerospace Missile Systems Prelaunch Safety Package (MSPSP) Reports and ensure report closure.Conduct reviews with the NASA Safety Review Panel.Provide detailed reports and recommendations for mitigation strategies.Prepare and present technical presentations.Review documents, operational scenarios, and subsequent changes for safety impact.Participate in reviews, forums, and technical interchange meetings for payload safety issues.Other duties as assigned.Essential SkillsEnvironmental engineeringSafety proceduresEHSTechnical WritingNASA 91-710 safety standards experienceSafety compliance experienceAdditional Skills & QualificationsB.S in engineering, systems engineering, or science preferredUnderstanding of Air Force Space Command Manual 91-710 Volume 32 - 5 years’ experience with mechanical, electrical, and structural systemsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, including electrical schematicsExperience in systems engineering or ability to learn and apply systems engineering principlesBroad-based engineering experience in all major disciplinesInvolvement in payload development or designsWork Environment

The role requires working onsite in Redmond, WA, or onsite at Kennedy Space Center, with quarterly travel between sites.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr.
