Union Tank Car Company (“UTLX”) manufactures, leases, and repairs railcars in North America for railroads and industrial companies who ship by rail. With roots dating back over 125 years to Standard Oil Co. and John D. Rockefeller, UTLX, along with Canadian affiliate Procor, owns and leases a diversified portfolio of approximately 120K tank cars and 10K freight cars, operates two-tank car manufacturing facilities as well as a network of more than 110 full-service and mini/mobile repair shops. JOB SUMMARY:

As a Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Manager, you will lead an incident-free culture while protecting employees & the environment & employing proactive tools to ensure compliance. You will develop, implement & maintain company policies adhering to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations at our Evanston, WY Repair Shop.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include, but are not limited to:

Ensure a safe operating environment for all employees, visitors, and shop processesEnsure employees are properly trained on safety, health, and environmental policiesLead daily Safety WalkReport facility safety KPI’s and regulatory environmental reportingManage investigations & RCAEnsure corporate compliance with established best practicesEvaluate, assess and continuously improve safety, health, and environmental practicesInvolved in the design and development of facilities, work areas, and work procedures and make environmental, health, and safety recommendations accordingly.Responsible for overseeing the preparation, maintenance, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals.Ensure compliance w/all environmental, health and safety regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization.Participate in and support quality projects and initiatives to ensure that the company achieves its goals

HABITS OF THE SUCCESSFUL SAFETY, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGER:

Conduct facility walks on each shift identifying safety, health and environmental concernsSpend time on off-shiftsPromote hazard identification and recording of near missesAttend supervisory Toolbox TalksPromote stop work authorityLead safety recognition programWork to engrain safety culture from top-downEngage with employees to develop transparent communicationWork with employees to perform and understand work processes and hazards

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

Legally must be able to work in USA now and in the future without sponsorship.

Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related field requiredMinimum of 5 years of related work experience in a lean manufacturing/repair environment with supervisory skillsPreferred qualifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local environmental regulationsStrong research and analysis skills with a passion for problem-solvingProficient with MS Office with the ability to learn new software or reporting toolsStrong project management; can set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects concurrentlyTenacity for identifying opportunities for improvements and developing solutions
