The Nationality Rooms and Intercultural Exchange Programs are seeking a qualified researcher from the Czech or Slovak Republics for a Ruth Crawford Mitchell Fellowship focused on ethnomusicological research. This fellowship is designed to enhance the recipient's knowledge and skill base while positioning them for career advancement upon their return to their home country.
The successful candidate will conduct research analyzing the relationship between music and identity within the Carpatho-Rusyn minority community in the Czech Republic. Fellows will work under the guidance of Dr. Adriana Helbig, Professor and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and CGS, whose research expertise includes ethnomusicology and minority populations in Eastern Europe. The fellowship requires conducting independent research, collaborating with the faculty mentor, and presenting findings to the Pitt campus community, particularly members of the Czechoslovak Room Committee.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in ethnomusicology, cultural studies, or a related field.
