What You Will Do:

What you’ll be challenged to do:

The successful candidate shall have a minimum of 8+ years of progressive design and task management experience in roadway engineering design and project engineering experience for highway, interchange, and urban roadway design services to public clients.  Experience should consist of overseeing the development of roadway design plan production, including the development of horizontal and vertical geometry, preparation of plan and profile sheets, typical sections, roadway cross sections, maintenance of traffic plans, coordinating with other disciplines and subconsultants.  The candidate should also possess good technical, leadership, managerial, and communication skills. The candidate should have existing client relationships and possess the ability to make decisions regarding project development.  Additionally, they should be able to motivate junior design staff, working well in a team environment. The candidate will be responsible for day-to-day management and execution of assigned projects, lead and support for business development opportunities and financial management of projects. 

 

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

Generate the scope, schedule and budget parameters for roadway design projectsLead the execution of projects within the scope, schedule and budget.Lead design staff including mentoring and trainingParticipate in interdisciplinary teams along aside other technical disciplinesIdentify and resolve issues related to the performance of the project, including the generation of supplemental scope, schedule and budget requestsDevelop and implement QA/ QC plans for projects.Manage subconsultant performanceSupervise and train design engineers and technicians who are direct reports to the SupervisorAssisting in business development activities, proposal development, and representing GFT at industry and professional events.Education | Experience:What you will bring to our firm: Candidate must possess broad knowledge and experience in transportation/design and strong technical skills in highway design for projects in Maryland. Experience within Virginia or the District of Columbia is a plus.Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering requiredRegistered Maryland Professional Engineer (PE), or the ability to obtain one within 6 months required8+ years of transportation industry experience with significant concentration in Highway/Roadway design is required.

What we prefer you bring: 

Prior experience leading engineering teams highly desiredTechnical skills should include all aspects of major and minor highway projects (resurfacing, restoration, rehabilitation and widening projects)Technical experience should include familiarity with drainage and traffic elements, with the ability to assist in the development of construction documentsKnowledge of and experience using MicroStation, InRoads and/or GeoPak, ProjectWise and Microsoft Office is requiredKnowledge of and experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D is highly desired

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $125,000 - $145,000.
