Job Title: Roadway Inspector

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Roadway Inspector to join our Transportation Department. The ideal candidate will perform technical work supporting higher-level technicians and engineers in areas such as construction inspection, surveying, and roadway design. This role involves significant decision-making and judgment and may include providing work directions to others.

ResponsibilitiesPerform independent complex inspections of roadways and materials to ensure compliance with contracts.Conduct moderately complex inspections or supervise other inspectors conducting routine inspections.Inspect asphalt and concrete for acceptable materials and mix, and ensure proper spreading, rolling, depth, alignment, and compaction.Inspect roadways, structures, and structural materials for conformance to plans and specifications.Conduct inspections of structural operations such as foundation excavation, placement of piling, reinforcing and structural steel, concrete, and backfill.Inspect traffic control and erosion control devices.Perform complex calculations and computations.Complete contract documentation duties, including field measurements of pay items and other required documentation.Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Essential SkillsExperience with roadway and transportation projects.Familiarity with asphalt and concrete inspections and structural steel projects.Strong client-facing and mentoring skills.Experience with earthworks and construction inspection.Additional Skills & QualificationsGraduation from a university with a degree in civil engineering or from a four-year college with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology.Graduation from a two-year technical college with a degree in civil engineering technology and three years of progressive transportation technical experience, or equivalent.Considerable knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in highway construction.Knowledge of mathematical functions including geometry and trigonometry.Drafting skills and proficiency in the use of office equipment such as calculators and computers.Ability to read, interpret, and explain roadway construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures.Good communicative ability and skill in instructing other employees in proper work methods.Licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with Georgia Law.Work Environment

This is an onsite role, requiring travel to various projects across Savannah to complete inspections and reports on transportation projects. The work schedule is Monday to Thursday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, and Friday, 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $79000.00 - $85000.00/yr.
