Cleveland Clinic Akron General’s Center for Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences addresses mental and emotional health concerns with a patient-centered philosophy that values each individual's unique needs and emphasizes family support and education throughout treatment. Unit 6400 is a 26-bed behavioral health unit, including 3 medical beds and specializes in managing behavioral health crises. As an RN on this unit, you will assist fellow caregivers in providing exceptional care, from initial introduction to final send-off. In this role, you will engage directly with patients, families, and visitors to enhance their experience and provide healthcare education as needed. You will offer compassionate care and support to individuals facing mental health challenges while gaining valuable skills in crisis intervention, de-escalation, communication, and therapeutic rapport. As part of a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, social workers, and therapists, you will play a key role in delivering safe, patient-centered care.

This is a regular PRN position, with caregivers working various shifts between 12:00 a.m. -- 11:30 p.m. with weekend requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

Provide nursing care based on patient-centered outcomes and standards of care based on current research and evidence-based practice. 

Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.  

Safely administer patient care, medications, and treatments in accordance with the Standards of Safe Nursing Practice and institutional policy. 

Involve the patient and family (or designee) in developing a plan of care individualized to patient cultural, religious and educational needs. 

Participate in on-going interdisciplinary evaluation of patient/family outcomes and contribute to the improvement of care.   

Delegate tasks/assignments, serve as a resource person, pursue ongoing education and specialty certifications and maintain applicable certification/licensure. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

Graduate from an accredited School of Professional Nursing (ADN or BSN program) 

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) 

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon or within one year of hire 

NRP-Must be completed within six (6) months of hire if assigned to new life center.  (Neonatal Resuscitation Program - American Academy of Pediatrics.)

STABLE-must be completed within one year of hire if assigned to new life center.  (STABLE Certification - Sugar and Safe Care, Temperature, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, Emotional Support.)

One year of acute care nursing experience

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.

Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.

Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.

Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.

Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required
