Our Center for Workplace Violence Prevention and Caregiver Well-Being sets caregiver safety as a priority, identifying, reporting and responding to incidents and providing safety resources. 

Caregivers in this position will work 8-hr shifts with no call rotations, holidays or weekends. For those with no OR experience, caregivers will follow a condensed version of OR orientation from Monday to Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm. For those with OR experience, onboarding will be customized by the caregivers’ educational background.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:   

Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic services in a variety of healthcare settings.   Assess patients, complete nursing assessments, document findings in patient records and notify physicians of abnormal findings.   Perform telephone triage and call rotations.  Perform nursing procedures and administer treatments and medications.  Establish care plans in collaboration with patients, families and the health care team.   Coordinate ongoing care, identify discharge needs and facilitate discharge planning.   Evaluate, initiate and maintain standards of care.   Educate patients and families.   Cover other nursing roles in the department.   Maintain core competencies in nursing including CPR and skills labs. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing  Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse  Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)  One year of recent experience as an RN  If in an ED, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) through American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of beginning work in the Emergency Department. 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

Two years of recent experience as an RN  One year of critical care experience in a hospital setting preferred In areas operating with Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines), Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) certification is preferred within three years of hire.

Physical Requirements:

Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.Requires some exposure to communicable disease or bodily fluids.Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
