Martin South Hospital’s Emergency Department has multi-disciplinary care teams and leading-edge technology needed to diagnose and treat patients efficiently and effectively. As a Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department, you will be responsible for providing direct nursing care, monitoring, recording and communicating patients’ condition, implementing and monitoring patient care plans and administering medications and treatments. A caregiver in this role works nights from 7:00 p.m. – 7:30 a.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization.
Implement and monitor patient care plans.
Monitor, record, document and communicate patient’s condition, effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions.
Evaluate, update and revise plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.
Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
Assess and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
Assess educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
Provide teaching and educational material as appropriate.
Validate and documents patient and family understanding of teaching.
Maintain professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing
Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
Critical Care Course or validated OJT for critical care setting
One year of current acute care RN and/or Emergency Department experience. Will consider military RN experience
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of employment
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) within one year of employment
Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of beginning work in the Emergency Department
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor’s of science in nursing (BSN)

Physical Requirements:
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours.
Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
