Responsibilities As an Emergency Department RN, you’ll be at the heart of fast-paced, high-stakes care—supporting patients of all ages through trauma, acute illness, and behavioral health crises. You’ll play a vital role in: + Delivering and coordinating patient care using the nursing process + Using critical thinking to assess and respond to rapidly changing conditions + Collaborating with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to plan and implement care + Documenting accurately to ensure a clear and complete record of care + Educating patients and families to support safe discharge and continuity of care + Making referrals to community resources when needed + Staying current with best practices and trends in emergency and behavioral health nursing You’ll also work closely with our behavioral health and chemical dependency teams to ensure safe, compassionate, and effective care for patients in crisis. Qualifications Education: + Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or IA Board of Nursing approved nursing program. License(s)/Certification(s): + Current licensure in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in Iowa Experience: + Minimum of six months acute RN experience. + All newly licensed RNs or RNs with less than six months of acute RN experience and who are interested in this department or any other Acute RN role within UnityPoint Health – Des Moines, are encouraged and required to participate in the RN Residency program.
