RN Clinical Educator

Responsibilities

The Georgia Clinical Educator is a Registered Nurse who has direct accountability for leadership of Nursing Education within the CHI Memorial Health System (CommonSpirit Health). The Clinical Educator is assigned specific teaching responsibilities for onboarding/orientation of new associates (RN, LPN, NT, PCT) within assigned units, regularly scheduled required classes, in addition to assessing, developing and implementing education for the needs of individual units in assigned areas.

Maintains knowledge and skills in performance of nursing interventions consistent with standards of practice, as outlined in the RN Job Description (as applicable), including: patient assessment and development of improvements list, understanding of procedures for safe medication administration, proper use of equipment, patient care interventions to include age-specific needs, and appropriate documentation. Ensures that new hires (RN, LPN, NT, PCT, Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assistants) receive appropriate orientation at the onset of employment.Provides tools for RNs, LPNs, NTs, PCTs, Surgical Assistants and Technologists to complete yearly credentialing and other educational requirements.Promotes clinical, ongoing educational opportunities for staff, including Professional Career Ladder involvement (RN, LPN, NT, PCT, Surgical Technologists, and Surgical Assistants), preceptor enhancement, mentoring programs, RN Residency/Fellowship (as applicable), advanced degrees and board certification.Collaborates with nursing leadership and staff to develop strategies to improve standards of nursing practice and nursing care throughout the organization and participates in Shared Governance Councils (as applicable). Maintains objectivity when opportunities arise for improvements in patient care, developing strategies for problem resolution.Helps to update policies and procedures needed to maintain standards of nursing practice.Educates and monitors performance related to age-specific requirements.Create, update and maintain orientation checklists, notebooks and other educational materials and forms.Evaluate associate (RN, LPN, NT, PCT, Surgical Tech, Surgical Assistant) progress using preceptor evaluations, classroom and simulation feedback, and feedback collected from preceptors, educators and managers/leaders.Facilitate feedback and communication between associates (RN, LPN, NT, PCT, Surgical Technologist/Assistant), preceptor and leadership.Provide opportunities/training for associate (RN, LPN, NT, PCT, Surgical Tech/Assistant) advancement.Other duties as assigned by leadership.

Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor Degree in Nursing (BSN) minimum, MSN preferred. 3 years of nursing experience.

Active RN License, BLS, ACLS (Cardiac, ED, CC), PALS (ED), AHA Instructor Certification as needed, National Board Certification within 1 year  (NPD Preferred)

3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse combination of ICU and MST. Experience developing curriculum incorporating multimodal teaching approaches based on the needs assessment and learner’s knowledge and skill base. Experience trending data and writing/implementing actions plans. Experience in selection of and use of equipment/supplies to be used in the onboarding, orientation and evaluation of staff (RN, LPN, NT, PCT, Surgical Technician, Surgical First Assistant). Experience evaluating clinical competency. Use of general communication and patient care equipment. Use of computers including the Google Platform. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Effective conflict resolution techniques. Ability to adapt to changes in healthcare technology. Use of simulation as a teaching technique and ability to operate simulation equipment. Ability to organize varying schedules and use of multiple resources.
