Risk Manager - Credit Strategy and Climate Risks

Job Description

In this Credit Risk Management role, you will help design and execute programs and projects to identify, measure, monitor, and mitigate climate-related credit risks arising from physical/environmental and industry transition risks.

You will engage with risk management and business unit leaders to execute the bank’s roadmap to evaluate and manage climate-related financial risks and opportunities.  You will identify and execute best practices and develop insights and analysis to assess current exposure and mitigate short-term and long-term financial risks.  This is a hands-on role that requires managing projects simultaneously and adjusting priorities as the business and regulatory environment evolves.

While primarily focused on climate-related risks, the role may include opportunities to engage in other cross-functional or cross-business line initiatives for the Credit Strategy team within CRM, as well as corporate responsibility matters adjacent to credit risk.

Key Activities

Partnering with credit portfolio risk managers and U.S. Bank business units to identify and manage climate-related emerging risks associated with their respective portfolios. This includes developing relevant metrics and segmentation to assess exposure at risk and credit policies to mitigate short-term and long-term risks, with demonstrated value creation where feasible.

Serving as Credit Risk Management’s liaison with the Corporate Social Responsibility and Finance functions by gathering information necessary for corporate disclosures.

Assisting in developing requirements for technology projects to gather relevant data and execute credit underwriting tied to climate change and sustainable finance, and design ongoing or ad-hoc analyses as needed.

Assessing vendor tools and industry best practices for identification, measurement and mitigation of risks associated with the environment and sustainable finance assisting in implementing these tools and practices across the company.

Working with the centralized reporting team to develop and maintain climate-relevant reporting, risk limits and analysis, and performing climate scenario analysis to understand the bank’s exposure to environmental risks and opportunities.

Preparing management reports and presentations to communicate current state and progress on credit-focused initiatives related to climate risks.

Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
- Typically more than 10 years of applicable experience

Preferred Skills/Experience

- Knowledge of Credit Risk Management concepts and familiarity working with U.S. Bank credit databases
- Prior familiarity working with concepts related to climate risks and environmental sustainability
- Strong analytical skills in Excel and Business Intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI); familiarity with statistical concepts

- Programming experience in Python or SQL preferred
- Experience managing cross-functional projects
- Well-developed verbal and written communication skills

The role offers a hybrid/flexible schedule, which means there's an in-office expectation of 3 or more days per week and the flexibility to work outside the office location for the other days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, U.S. Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401(k) contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $133,365.00 - $156,900.00
