I. Job Summary
We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Manager, Risk Control to build and lead our energy commodity risk management function. Reporting to the Senior Director of Finance, this role will play a critical part in developing risk frameworks, systems, and reporting capabilities to support our physical production trading, procurement, and operations teams. The role will also work in close partnership with our Corporate Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function to align commodity exposures with broader enterprise risk strategies.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Help build and scale the commodity risk function, potentially including recruitment and mentorship of credit risk analyst
Build and implement comprehensive risk frameworks including VaR, PaR, PFE, stress testing, and scenario analysis
Develop and enforce risk policies, limits, controls, and governance processes in coordination with finance and ERM
Create actionable dashboards and reporting packages: MtM, VaR, stress testing, limit breaches, and P&L attribution
Deliver regular risk insights and reports to the Senior Director of Finance, Risk Committee, and cross-functional leadership
Serve as the finance liaison and partner to front office teams while proactively surfacing insights and mitigation strategies and to develop effective hedging strategies
Track and report on open positions, exposures, and counterparty risk; escalate breaches and propose corrective actions
Help build and scale the commodity risk function, potentially including recruitment and mentorship of credit risk analysts
Monitor daily market, credit, and operational risks across commodity portfolios
Manage and enhance ETRM platforms (experience with Endur, Allegro, Molecule a plus) and risk data infrastructure
Review and validate forward curves and pricing inputs for MTM, ensuring consistency with market data
III. Qualifications
A. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree a High School Diploma GED (accredited) and 4 years of relevant work experience.
7 years of previous experience (in addition to education requirement)
B. Preferred Qualifications
MBA
Experience in both physical and financial commodity trading or corporate procurement environments.
Experience with building and enhancing ETRM platforms (experience with Endur, Allegro, Molecule a plus) and risk data infrastructure.
Proven ability to build or scale a risk function within a trading or asset-intensive environment.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
Must be authorized to work in the US.
Must be local to the Houston area; No relocations for this role.
