Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia’s future.
Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security.
We currently have an opportunity for a Risk and Opportunities Manager based in Adelaide to work on a Maritime Sustainment Project.
What You’ll Do
This role offers a broad scope, with key responsibilities including:
Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of risks and opportunities, maintaining registers aligned with ISO 31000 and Defence frameworks.
Prepare and present risk submissions to monthly Risk Management Boards, ensuring timely escalation and treatment coordination.
Support development of mitigation strategies for project delivery risks and contribute to RAID tracking.
Assist with governance documentation and project reporting to support assurance activities.
Collaborate with PMO team members to continuously improve risk tools, processes, and reporting practices.
What You’ll Bring
Demonstrated experience in project risk management within Defence or large infrastructure programs.
Familiarity with Defence governance cycles and risk reporting expectations.
Strong written communication skills, particularly in preparing board papers and formal submissions.
Ability to work independently and manage complex tasks within a part-time arrangement.
Desirable experience in Maritime Systems Division, Naval Projects, or SEA 4000, with PRINCE2 or PMBOK certification preferred
Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
More than anything, you’ll bring a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients.
