Position Title: Senior Risk Lead – Mega Project (Contract)
Location: Edmonton, AB (Hybrid – Minimum 3 days in office, East Edmonton location)
Contract Term: 1 year (strong potential for extension to project completion in Q4 2027)
Hours: 37.5 hours/week (straight-time pay for approved overtime)
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Risk Lead to take ownership of the risk management function on a multi-billion-dollar pipeline mega project. This is a leadership role for someone who can work independently, think beyond the checklist, and bring deep experience from large-scale infrastructure projects — ideally oil & gas, midstream, or major pipeline construction.

You will be the primary point of contact for all project risk activities, overseeing the identification, analysis, and mitigation of technical, financial, regulatory, environmental, and schedule risks. This role requires a strong communicator with the ability to engage confidently across departments and with senior stakeholders, guiding teams that may not have prior mega project experience.

While the immediate need is to cover a one-year parental leave, exceptional performance could see this role extend to the end of the project in Q4 2027.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all aspects of project risk management for a large-scale pipeline construction project.

Develop, maintain, and improve the project risk register, ensuring ownership is assigned and mitigation actions are tracked.

Conduct qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, including probability-impact evaluations and contingency modelling.

Work closely with cost and schedule teams to integrate risk analysis into budgets and timelines.

Facilitate and lead cross-functional risk workshops, ensuring productive engagement from all participants.

Apply sound judgment and industry awareness to identify risks that may not appear in standard frameworks, including emerging market, geopolitical, and supply chain factors.

Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure mitigation plans are executed effectively.

Maintain risk documentation in SharePoint; collaborate with the project team to potentially onboard additional risk management software.

Coach and support less experienced team members in understanding risk processes for mega projects.
Must-Have Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Minimum 8–10 years’ experience in project controls, with at least 3–5 years in a senior risk management role on large-scale capital projects.

Proven experience on mega projects (multi-billion-dollar scale) — pipeline, oil & gas, midstream, or major infrastructure preferred.

Strong working knowledge of risk management methodologies, including qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Proficiency with SharePoint for documentation management (required).

Competence in Excel for risk modelling and contingency analysis.

Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills — able to work with executives, technical leads, and non-technical teams.

Ability to work independently, take initiative, and “own” the risk function without close supervision.
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
Experience with Monte Carlo simulations for cost/schedule forecasting.

Familiarity with Alberta regulatory and environmental approval processes.

Professional certifications such as PMI-RMP or PMP.

Exposure to risk management software and project controls systems (e.g., P6, MS Project, Unifier, InEight).

Experience facilitating multidisciplinary meetings and workshops.

Knowledge of ISO 31000 risk management standards.
Work Environment & Logistics
Hybrid model: Minimum 3 days/week in office, with flexibility to work remotely for the remainder.

Increased in-office presence likely during construction phase.

East Edmonton office with free parking.
Standard 37.5-hour work week; overtime available at straight pay when approved. Contractors only — this position will not convert to permanent employment.
