Rights Analyst
Job Summary:

The Rights Team within Studio Legal Affairs is the centralized source of information regarding distribution rights and allied rights, studio obligations, and talent restrictions for content produced by Walt Disney Studios, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures and Walt Disney Animation Studios. The Rights Team is seeking a Rights Analyst to assist with rights report creation, data migration, historical file organization and administrative tasks. This position will also assist the Senior Rights Analyst, Senior Manager and Counsel with other tasks and research responsibilities as needed to respond to internal and external requests.

What You Will Do:

Compile and annotate legal contracts for review and analysisAssist with the creation of an itemized report containing all picture related distribution and allied rights information, first opportunity rights, obligations and talent approvals/restrictionsEnter report information into a centralized database for picture-specific distribution rights information, studio obligations and talent approvalsAssist with the digitization of paper filesAssist with various research projects and other related duties as neededSummarize legal contracts to determine studio obligations (i.e., contractual rights owed to talent) and talent approvals/restrictions (including merchandising and commercial tie-ins) for pictures produced by studio divisions, including Walt Disney Pictures, 20th Century Studios, Searchlight Pictures and Walt Disney Animation

Required Qualifications & Skills:

Minimum 2 years of experience in rights management in a film or TV studio, or production companyUnderstanding of distribution rights and allied rights, obligations, and talent restrictionsAbility to prioritize and multitask while meeting tight deadlinesExcellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills with the dedication to finding accurate informationTakes initiative to manage time and workload independently to achieve personal and team prioritiesExperience reading and analyzing legal agreementsStrong organizational and communication skillsProficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook and AdobeCollaborative personality and a team player

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous studio experience and/or familiarity with film historyProficiency in using document management systems and databasesExperience with document scanning and equipmentExperience using NetDocuments

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience


The hiring range for this position in Burbank, CA is $64,300 to $86,200 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
