Job Description
The Retirement/Pension Specialist oversees the daily operations of VIA’s Retirement Plans, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and plan provisions. This role involves supervising pension staff, coordinating with external auditors and actuaries, performing retirement calculations, maintaining pension records, and supporting benefit-related initiatives such as Open Enrollment. The specialist also prepares financial reports, manages data exchanges, and provides educational sessions for employees regarding retirement benefits.

Skills and Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pension, accounting, finance, or benefits administration
Strong understanding of pension plan practices, banking, and investment principles
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and 10-key by touch
Excellent customer service and communication skills (oral and written)
Ability to interpret complex retirement plan documents and financial reports
Strong analytical skills, including knowledge of probability, statistics, and financial adjustments
Detail-oriented with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information
Ability to maintain good attendance and comply with HIPAA regulations
Experience in managing deadlines and quality standards
Experience conducting audits and preparing pension-related financial reports CPA certification
Familiarity with medical terminology and insurance practices
Experience working specifically with pension benefit programs
Ability to lead educational sessions and employee briefings
Experience with GASB disclosures and actuarial valuations
Knowledge of Texas Pension Review Board training requirements null
