Job DescriptionThe expected salary range for this role is $115,000 - $125,000 USD per year
Reporting to the VP, Retail Media, the Retail Strategy Director leads ecommerce shopping strategy across client brands, developing insight-driven briefs and guiding the creation of effective, results-oriented campaigns. Collaborating closely with creative, media, data, and commerce teams, they ensure strategic alignment across the full funnel—delivering impactful retail experiences that drive business growth, strengthen client relationships, and support pitch success.
Responsibilities
Develops compelling and original retail strategy by leveraging commercial, shopper, ecommerce, and category data to uncover insights that drive performance for both existing clients and new opportunities.Writes exceptional, insight-led creative briefs that inspire retail media, performance creative, and omnichannel activations across the customer journey.Communicates and presents clearly and persuasively, translating complex retail and commercial challenges into clear, actionable thinking for clients and internal teams.Understands the retail landscape deeply, across channels (DTC, Amazon, Wwalmart, Target, Criteo retailers, wholesale, and bricks-and-mortar) and formats, to guide strategic decisions and drive relevance.Works within proprietary Jellyfish tech and third-party retail tools (e.g. Jungle Scout, Stackline, Profitero) to track market share, identify growth opportunities, and measure category trends.Analyzes the competitive landscape—assessing pricing, assortment, and promotional tactics—to uncover strategic white space and inform campaign or content strategy.Partners with clients on promotional strategy, contributing to go-to-market planning, seasonal initiatives, and full-funnel execution.Develops trusted relationships with retail and marketing clients, understanding their commercial priorities, category dynamics, and organizational structures.Understand the retail & shopper relationships and the importance around those insights.Brings agility across a range of retail categories and challenges, flexing between campaign strategy, ecommerce planning, merchandising, CRM, and loyalty.Identifies and activates business growth opportunities, including cross-selling Jellyfish capabilities (e.g. retail media, creative automation) and upselling solutions aligned with client needs.QualificationsAt least 5 years of experience in a media strategy or planning role, or in a cross-channel buying role within agency or multinational client organizationDemonstrated expertise in developing brand, digital marketing and planning strategies, with a fluency in digital media planningAn expert in the use of data and market insights to inform decisions and develop business strategiesPassion for creative problem solving, generating unique ideas and pushing the agenda on innovative or experimental approaches that progress our clients marketing practicesExperience working in close collaboration with multi-disciplinary team members to achieve common goals, valuing and respecting diverse contributionsExperience working in a dynamic and fast paced industry, demonstrating adaptability and integrity to navigate unforeseen challengesExperience managing people or teams, or in a mentoring capacityStrong analytical skills, comfortable interrogating data and building data-driven hypotheses and insightsDetail-oriented with exceptional critical thinking and attention to detailProject Management Skills with a strong business acumenAble to prioritize and manage multiple projects and tasksAbility to work independently and in integrated, multi-disciplinary teamsStrong communication and presentation skillsAn outgoing, positive thinker, with consistent levels of evident enthusiasmFlexible, versatile and copes well under pressureDirect, is comfortable in giving and receiving constructive feedbackAdditional InformationJoin Jellyfish and experience a workplace where we prioritise your growth, celebrate your contributions, and empower you to tailor your work environment to suit your needs.
