Our goal is to help individuals be in more control of their own supports and to have a say in who is assisting them. This helps them to stay in their own homes as long as possible.
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Teen Respite Provider/Support Specialist to give companionship, support and supervision to a female with special needs. Your role is essential in ensuring the well-being of the teen while allowing her main caregivers the necessary breaks they need for self-care. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be trustworthy, and have an easy-going personality, but still respect boundaries without being too intrusive. We are looking for a long-term care provider that is willing to be flexible with summer and fall hours.
The family would prefer the same potential employee to work with the teen on daily living skills. Tasks to work on include hygiene practices, following directions, keeping a routine/schedule, safety practices at home and in the community, and working on improving her communication, as she is verbally limited. The ideal candidate will be able to build a trusting relationship with the teen and engage with her during your time together, while demonstrating patience and compassion. We are looking for a long-term care provider that is willing to be flexible with summer and fall hours.
The teen is a fun- spirited girl who enjoys her Wii games and Disney videos. She is a big fan of Elmo and Sesame Street. She also may enjoy splash pads and swimming pools. Currently her favorite leisure activity is puzzles.
Location: Pewaukee, WI – Summer Wales, WI – School year
Respite Provider Wage: $18.42 per hour Hours: 18 hours per week – Summer 9 hours per week – School year
Tasks: · Companionship · Community outings · Engage teen in hobbies she enjoys and interact with her · Meal Preparation · Supervision · Toileting Assistance (cues, reminders, and supervision)
Teen Support Wage: $20.26 per hour Hours: 12 hours per week. Flexible 3–4-hour shifts during late afternoons/early evenings. 9 hours per week during the school year. (4pm start time)
Tasks: Communication skills: improve her ability to use her words, use complete sentences, etc. Hygiene practices: toileting: cues and reminders, assistance with cleanup/wiping/period Learning to follow directions Establish a routine/schedule Safety practices at home (kitchen skills) and in the community
Qualifications: · Authorized to work in the U.S. · Valid Driver's License, reliable vehicle, and auto insurance · Experience preferred: working with non-verbal special needs children/teens. · Able to pass a background check · Prior experience preferred in Health Sciences, Special Education (teachers or paraprofessionals) as well as others who have a passion for those with complex special needs. · Family prefers FEMALE providers
