Respiratory Pulmonary Specialist

What you'll do Under the supervision of the Manager and the Medical Director of the Pulmonary Function Laboratory the Respiratory Pulmonary Specialist will perform advanced, multifaceted, ATS guideline-based quality diagnostic studies including Pulmonary Function Testing, Bronchoprovocation Testing, and Cardiopulmonary Testing. Perform Bronchoscopy and Laryngoscopy Assist in the ambulatory, acute care and critical care environment. Perform bronchoscopy including EBUS (Endobronchial ultrasound guided bronchoscopy), navigational bronchoscopy, radial ultrasound bronchoscopy, therapeutic bronchoscopy, and cryotherapy. The employee will provide patient education in all aspects of inhaled pharmacologic agents with working knowledge of multiple drug delivery devices; provide education in multiple non-pharmacologic modalities including self-management, numerous respiratory modalities including chest physiotherapy, secretion mobilization devices and non-pharmacologic disease management techniques; and patient navigation through processes listed in this description and according to specific department policies. Employee will be able to monitor patients and assess adequate ventilation status, recognize respiratory compromise and intervene with advanced airway management skills. Provide Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Asthma education in the ambulatory, acute care and critical care settings as needed. Employee will provide community navigation in all aspects of home oxygen therapy and devices to facilitate pulmonary hygiene. Employee will demonstrate the ability to teach and train staff at affiliate institutions to perform spirometry, including oversight of quality control to assure that all test results meet American Thoracic Society Standards. A working knowledge of ATS standards is required. Employee will provide education and validation of nursing staff throughout the Bassett Network. Provides pulmonary diagnostic services to patients of all ages in ambulatory and acute care settings. Age limits are at the discretion of the Pulmonologist. Administers respiratory therapy treatments to patients of all ages. Provides these and other services that may be determined in accordance with departmental policy or guidelines of the American Thoracic Society (ATS), or specific manufacturer dictates Maintain a competent level of knowledge for self Maintain a thorough understanding of department equipment. This is applicable to both diagnostic equipment and information gathering equipment. Employee performs operations correctly and notifies appropriate personnel of malfunctions Participates in Performance Improvement Program for the Respiratory Services Department Validate nursing staff annually in Respiratory Care Procedures according to their Scope of Practice Attends at least 8 or 12 monthly department meetings Attends all mandatory department programs or reviews multi-media presentations of required information Attends pathology conference at least once a year Random sample testing completed by individual technologist evaluated according to ATS standards at least once annually Provides instruction to students and residents Acts as a resource to Respiratory Pulmonary Therapists 1 and 2 throughout the network Duties that may be designated by location and leadership of the Respiratory Care; e.g. ECK, Holter monitors, nocturnal studies, 6-minute walk, assist with stress test, ABG puncture, home oxygen qualifications and set-up Performs other duties as requested and observed by Respiratory supervisor, manager or director What we need from you Education/Qualifications: 2 year/Associate Degree in Respiratory Care or Graduate of a COARC accredited school of Respiratory Care, as required by NYS to obtain license, required 4 year/Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Care, preferred Experience: Minimum 5 years clinical experience as a Respiratory Therapist/Technician, required Licensure/Certificates: NYS Respiratory Therapist license, required RRT - NBRC Credential/Certification, required BLS - Basic Life Support certification within 6 months from date of hire, required ACLS - Advanced Cardia Life Support certification within 6 months from date of hire, required PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification, preferred Asthma Educator or COPD Educator certification, preferred Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist within 1 year of hire, required Skills: Accountability Accuracy Adaptability Attention to Detail Communication Critical Thinking Decision Making Interacting with People Technical Skills Reliability Reading/Writing/Comprehension Physical Requirements: Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects Occasional balancing, crouching, grasping Frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing, stooping Constant hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, talking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception) walking, fit testing Hazards: Occasional radiation/radiant energy Frequent bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure Travel: The job may require travel from time-to-time, but not on a regular basis Total Rewards Bassett Healthcare Network’s commitment to our employees includes benefit programs carefully designed with the needs and values of all our employees in mind. Pay Range Salary is based on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, training, and fair market evaluation based on industry standards. Pay Range Minimum: USD $35.33/Hr. Pay Range Maximum: USD $52.99/Hr.
