Respiratory Care Limited Permit - Respiratory Therapy - PRN 0.3 (as scheduled)

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the limited permit holder may provide basic respiratory care under the direct supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist. The performance of respiratory care procedures is limited to successful completion of didactic course work, orientation, and competency assessment. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

 

Job Functions:

Development of a respiratory care plan with the guidance of a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Initiates, conducts, and evaluates efficacy of therapeutic procedures/interventions and recommends changes to the respiratory plan of care for goal achievement and successful outcomes with guidance of a Respiratory Care Practitioner. Performs basic respiratory care procedures e.g. oxygen therapy, nebulizer medication treatments, incentive spirometry, chest percussion, EKGs and NIV. Evaluates test results and communicates decision for clinical course of action with Respiratory Care Practitioner. Educates patients and family on medications, procedures and disease management using Stop Light criteria. Performs operation verification procedures, cleaning/disinfecting, set-up, maintenance, troubleshooting, and transportation of respiratory care equipment with guidance of Respiratory Care Practitioner. Attends Code Blue, Code Pink, Rapid Response, and Trauma Alert Level 1 with Respiratory Care Practitioner for observation and learning. May participate in BLS procedures. Documents and communicates patient assessment as appropriate. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.
