RESIDENTIAL TEAM LEADER

This position is responsible for the afternoon/evening shift at the LA School for the Visually Impaired Residential Program. This is a full time, 12 month position.
Minimum Qualifications
+ A Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, social work, sociology, or related field, with a background and/or experience in working in the field of visually impaired
+ Two (2) years of work experience with visually impaired individuals.
+ Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification required, or must secure such certification within the first 6 months of employment.
+ Must possess skills in human relations, planning, organizing, coordinating, writing and computer use to perform related office functions.
Substitions/Preferred Qualifications:
+ A Master’s degree in the fields listed above will substitute for 1 year of the work experience with visually impaired individuals.
+ Prior administrative or supervisory experience and experience working with children at a residential school is preferred.

Job Duties and Other Information
Managerial Responsibilities
+ Implement policies and regulations mandated by SSD and other state and federal regulatory agencies.
+ Assist in the development of policies and procedures affecting the LSVI Dormitory Program; implement school philosophy and programs; develop and establish long range strategic plans.
+ Prepare budgets, projects, contracts, interagency agreements and reports as directed.
+ Exhibit knowledge of special education rules and regulations associated with implementation of state and federal laws.
+ Observe, record, and evaluate student behavior to create a positive living and learning environment, and to administer discipline as appropriate.
+ Monitor the effectiveness of residential programs through observation, written reports, parental input, and student and staff feedback.
+ Ensure a safe environment that prevents injury and abuse.
+ Demonstrate appropriate and effective office management skills such as planning, organizing and implementing.
+ Exercise good judgment in making decisions.
+ Maintain complete and accurate administrative and student progress records and exercise confidentiality of information in accordance with requirements of the law.
+ Maintain a positive relationship with professional associates, state and local agencies, the community and the parents of the students.
+ Monitor the maintenance, repair and inventory of facilities and equipment in assigned area.
Supervisory Responsibilities
+ Supervise staff and students on the day or night shift in the LSVI residential program providing leadership and coordination for a team approach.
+ Interact daily with staff to promote a positive work environment and the school's vision of “Kids Come First."
+ Apply knowledge and skills of supervision to programs and personnel demonstrating appropriate and effective interpersonal skills.
+ Delegate responsibilities as appropriate.
+ Conduct performance plannings and evaluations with staff according to required timelines of current evaluation systems and maintain evaluation records and reports as mandated by law.
+ Provide for staff development and assist in the staff development program by providing in-service training and workshops for Residential program staff.
+ Participate in training offerings and workshops for renewal of CPI certifications
Programmatic Responsibilities
+ Exhibit understanding of children with disabilities and their needs and demonstrate awareness of specialists, agencies, and organizations that serve children with disabilities and their families. Work with community service providers who offer enhanced supportive services for students, e.g., social services, family services, child protection.
+ Develop, formulate, implement, coordinate and evaluate behavioral and living skills activities that enhance the emotional, physical, social and educational development of students who are blind and/or have visual impairments in the residential program, ages 3-22.
+ Contribute to and implement living skills goals and objectives in conjunction with faculty, staff and family members.
+ Attend ILSP pre-staffings and team meetings as needed.
+ Coach peer team members from other programs on campus regarding their interface with a child and communicate with all staff members involved with each student's living skills goals.
+ Support students in their academic endeavors in the after school program, assist staff and students with their daily routines and schedules, and interact with students to enhance their social skills and personal development.
+ Respect the individual worth and dignity of each student and maintain an appropriate student-adult relationship.
+ Apply positive peer culture, behavior modification or work therapy programming to students to alter negative behavior patterns and to teach valuable life skills.
+ Work closely with the After School Program Coordinator, Counselors, Assistant Principal, Principal, and parents, and with all school staff who support student growth and development and work with other school staff as required providing input on a specific student's individual progress, behavior, and achievement.
+ Provide guidance to children regarding personal habits, discipline, daily living skills and behavior to ensure a constant reinforcement of positive, socially acceptable lifestyles and meet with students who are experiencing emotional/behavioral difficulties.
+ Participate in student disciplinary staffing in the absence of the Dormitory Director.
