SCHEDULED HOURS: Monday through Friday 8a-5p WEEKENDS OFF! The Residential Counselor works collaboratively with the Dorm Life team to provide students in the assigned dormitory with a safe, clean, and structured living environment that fosters retention, satisfaction, achievement, and success. This role oversees dorm operations, resolves student and staff concerns with sound judgment, and provides individualized case management to support student enrollment, retention, and program completion. The Residential Counselor partners closely with Dorm Life, Recreation, and Safety & Security staff to effectively supervise and manage the student population while maintaining confidentiality and integrity of student data. Key Responsibilities + Oversee assigned dormitory area to ensure a safe, clean, and structured living environment. + Provide individualized case management to promote student retention, achievement, and successful program completion. + Resolve student and staff issues with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment. + Partner with Dorm Life, Recreation, and Safety & Security teams to maintain an orderly and positive residential environment. + Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information and uphold the integrity of student data. + Supervise students to ensure compliance with dorm rules, program expectations, and safety protocols. + Promote a respectful and inclusive community atmosphere within the dormitory. + Address behavioral issues promptly and fairly, modeling positive behavior for students. + Document incidents, student progress, and dormitory conditions accurately and in a timely manner. + Serve as Acting Residential Counseling Supervisor or Shift Manager as required. + Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree, including at least 15 semester hours in social service–related coursework, required. + Minimum of one year of experience in counseling or a related field required; Job Corps or related program experience preferred. + Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company insurability requirements. + Ability to lift up to 40 pounds or assess load and request assistance when necessary. + Physical ability to sit, stand, climb, walk, lift, pull/push, carry, reach, stoop, and crouch. + Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills. + Commitment to fostering a safe, supportive, and student-centered residential environment. Qualifications Key Responsibilities + Uphold all integrity guidelines and ensure accurate, ethical handling of student data. + Manage a student caseload to meet or exceed DOL/Company performance goals. + Provide comprehensive, individualized case management to support student progress, retention, and successful completion of the Job Corps program. Participate actively on the Career Management Team to promote student success. + Establish supportive and mentoring relationships with students, providing personal, educational, and career counseling throughout enrollment. + Supervise students in dormitories to maintain safety, structure, and compliance with program expectations. + Conduct ESP evaluations to monitor and document student progress. + Provide personal counseling services to students as needed. + Ensure accurate and complete incident and shift reporting. + Maintain physical security, safety, and cleanliness of dormitory areas, reporting maintenance or safety concerns promptly. + Monitor and maintain adequate inventory levels, placing orders as needed, and initiate work orders to ensure timely completion of repairs. + Coordinate staff coverage in the absence of the Residential Counselor Supervisor, ensuring all student areas are supervised and staff adhere to break and meal schedules. + Collaborate with Residential Living, Recreation, and Safety & Security staff to provide comprehensive supervision across dormitories, recreation areas, Welcome Center/Security Gate, and other student spaces. + Contribute to a positive Center culture by treating students with care and respect, fostering a welcoming and safe environment. + Motivate and manage staff to perform effectively, creating a supportive work environment and recognizing staff accomplishments. + Produce work that is thorough, timely, and accurate while maintaining high attendance, accountability, and productivity standards. + Organize, prioritize, and plan assignments to meet goals and deadlines. + Maintain and apply job knowledge and skills to effectively perform duties; proactively pursue professional development. + Mentor, monitor, and model Career Success Standards as required by the PRH. + Provide high-quality supervision and management to positively influence student behavior, holding students accountable while demonstrating respect and courtesy. + Support Center operations to ensure quality programs and services and pursue continuous improvement to meet program objectives. + Communicate clearly and professionally in both oral and written formats; provide timely and accurate information to DOL/Company as requested. + Provide transportation support as required. + Identify problems, analyze causes, recommend appropriate solutions, and follow up to ensure resolution. + Work in partnership with staff across all departments to provide coordinated supervision and services for students. + Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director, Center Duty Officer, or Shift Manager, including temporary assignments in other departments as needed. + Perform other duties as assigned.
