Resident Engineer
We are currently seeking a Resident Engineer to join our Southern VA (SoVA) Water team to support the delivery of multiple regional utility construction projects. The Resident Engineer will support a Construction Management team representing a regional utility owner on various utility construction projects and will report directly to the Sr. Construction Manager onsite. In this role, you will observe, inspect, and document onsite activities for assigned construction projects. You will be responsible for enforcing compliance with contract plans, specifications, and related permits, to document construction progress, and to help proactively identify and resolve issues that arise in the field during construction. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: * Review all civil, architectural and mechanical plans and specifications to confirm that the project scope is thoroughly understood. * Review approved shop drawings, RFI responses, and executed change documents to maintain a current understanding of project scope, intent, etc. * Inspect active construction work against the contract documents to verify compliance, or identify any deviation from approved plans, then elevate to the Sr. Construction Manager. * Prepare a daily field report documenting the status of the work, daily activities, manpower, equipment, and other critical information requested by the Construction Manager or Owner. * Maintain a red line set of plans and specifications reflecting all the changes made during construction. * Identify non-compliant/deficient work, elevate to the Sr. Construction Manager and track the nonconforming work through resolution. * Take photographs and videos of pre-construction conditions and major construction activities. * Prepare a database of all photographs taken during construction with the date, subject matter, and photo number/file name. * Track quantities of work performed as well as labor, equipment, and materials used onsite. * Notify Sr. Construction Manager of potential construction problems as they are identified. * Attend construction progress and coordination meetings. * Verify that the contractor’s red line drawings are current. * Facilitate, attend, and observe 3rd party material testing as required. * Monitor the status of erosion control devices on a weekly basis, and after every major rainfall event. * Minimum of 15 years of experience inspecting civil and MEP trades for heavy civil infrastructure, structural and building projects. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills. * Collaborative, team-oriented perspective. * Attention to detail and disciplined time management skills * This role will require extended periods of time spent in the field and the ability to commute daily to field site/office of current assignment. * The ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently and to react to change in a fast-paced environment. * Keen eye for quality and safety. Preferred: * Prefer water/wastewater utility experience, but will consider those with experience from other sectors. * Experience installing or inspecting large diameter force main installations. * Certifications through ICC, ACI, or AWS other Special Inspection areas. * OSHA 30 Hour Training (which can also be provided for the right candidate) * Proficiency in the use of programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and other computer software required to generate construction progress reports. * Demonstrated highly effective written skills, timely documentation of daily activities and reporting of site issues. * Ability and high degree of proficiency communicating with multiple stakeholders, multiple sites, and subcontractors routinely. This is a full-time, hourly position that will be required to report to the designated field office Monday through Friday in the Fredericksburg, VA area. It is anticipated that the individual selected for this position will spend about 80% of their time in the field on active construction sites.
