Researcher (Part-Time)
Metro Learning Communities at the NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools is seeking a Part-Time Reasearcher to support budgeting, event coordination, and communications for a range of professional development offerings. Metro Learning Communities supports schools with the goal of improving teacher practice and thereby supporting equity and excellence in education for all students. We are seeking a Part-Time Researcher to support our team in the following ways: Position Summary The main purpose of this position is to provide administrative, financial, and communications support for Metro Learning Communities programs. This includes managing budgets, supporting events, and handling internal and external communications to ensure smooth project operations and equitable access to resources for educators. This role is a hybrid position. The job duties for this position require onsite presence 60–80% of the time (i.e., 2–3 days per week). There are no supervisory duties for this role. The NYU Metropolitan Center for Research on Equity and the Transformation of Schools is a research and professional learning services center that supports equity-focused, evidence-based innovations in educational research and programming. We operate as a complex collective of multiple sub-units with different areas of specialization. NYU Metro Center’s work falls into five categories: 1) technical assistance to districts and schools; 2) professional learning to teachers and leaders; 3) applied research and evaluation of district and school programs; 4) scholarly research conducted by NYU Metro Center researchers and NYU faculty affiliates; and 5) youth development programs including college readiness, youth-led advocacy and organizing, and youth participatory action research. NYU Metro Center has a history of experience providing assistance and mobilizing resources to address a variety of issues related to educational inequity, segregation, disproportionality, discrimination of all kinds, and social injustice. In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the hourly base salary range for this position is [$28-$32]. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer. Principal Responsibilities ● 35% Budgeting Support ○ Create internal and master budgets ○ Generate work orders and track revenue ○ Process consultant invoices ○ Maintain detailed financial records ● 25% Event Support ○ Assist with registration ○ Reproduce materials and set up for in-person/online seminars ○ Provide technical support (e.g., Zoom) ● 20% Communications ○ Field internal and external inquiries ○ Manage follow-ups via email ○ Create and manage outreach materials ● 10% Publicity & Marketing ○ Promote MLC events and offerings ○ Manage blog/website/social media ○ Liaise with schools and partners ● 10% Administrative Support ○ Manage project databases ○ Provide other support to the Director as needed The ideal candidate is, first and foremost, committed to our organizational mission and vision and reflects the following Qualifications: Required Experience: ● Experience with budgeting or finance tracking ● Event coordination or administrative support experience Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ● Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Forms) ● Graphic design proficiency using Canva ● Familiarity with Zoom and tech troubleshooting ● Excellent attention to detail ● Strong interpersonal and written communication skills ● Professional demeanor and timely responsiveness ● Flexible availability for events (including mid-week July and some evenings) Preferred Education: ● Master’s level student (current or incoming) Preferred Experience: ● Prior work in education, nonprofits, or event logistics ● Experience managing social media platforms Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: ● Database management ● Content creation for outreach ● Web/blog editing All interested individuals, including people of all races and national origins, people of all ages, people of all religions, people with or without disabilities, and/or people with any gender identity and sexual orientation, are encouraged to apply.
