Researcher: School of Chemistry (3-year contract)

The NRF/DSI/Wits SARChI Chair in Materials Electrochemistry and Energy Technologies (MEET) in the School of Chemistry, University of the Witwatersrand, seeks to recruit a Researcher to conduct research in energy storage and conversion technologies.


Brief Description

Requirements

A PhD in Chemistry obtained in the past five years. At least 2-year postdoctoral experience in the research field. A track record of publications and/or conference contributions in energy storage. Proven ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment. Experience in postgraduate student mentorship in advanced batteries. Skills in synthesis and characterization of electrode materials for energy storage. Proven ability to operate, maintain and train others in research equipment, including glovebox, battery testers, electrospinning, industrial microwave and/or chemical reactors, will be an advantage.

Responsibilities

Provide research support to the SARChI Chair. Conduct interdisciplinary research in batteries, supercapacitors and fuel cells. Publish at least two journal articles per year. Mentor / co-supervise postgraduate research students. Contribute to the activities of the School of Chemistry. Ability to work late hours and stringent deadlines, including weekends.

The research position is a 3-year contract (renewable, subject to satisfactory progress and availability of fund). The contract value is negotiable depending on experience) but will not include any benefits or allowances.
