Job Summary

The Bing Zhou lab in the LSA Department of Physics is currently seeking a Research Technician Senior to perform complex laboratory and research related tasks.  The selected candidate will coordinate a University of Michigan team at CERN focused on muon detector upgrade tasks. The role involves addressing complex technical issues, providing solutions, and managing machining jobs essential for detector integration, installation, and commissioning.

Responsibilities*

sMDT Commissioning: Contribute to the commissioning of sMDT with the final phase 2 upgrade of front-end electronics at the BB5 building of CERN.

Engineering Design: Design and build mechanical tools for setting up chamber test stations, facilitating the integration of sMDT with RPC.

Testing and Data Analysis: Conduct tests on sMDTs in conjunction with RPCs using cosmic rays, and analyze the resulting data at BB5.

Installation and Commissioning: Participate in the installation and commissioning of front-end electronics for the phase 2 upgrade on muon Big-Wheels in the ATLAS cavern.

Team Coordination: Collaborate with physicists, technicians, and students on detector installation and commissioning tasks. Develop work schedules, plan activities, and coordinate with team members to ensure detectors satisfy the QA/QC requirements.

Required Qualifications*

Bachelor degree in Physics or related field is required.
