Job Description
Responsibilities:
+ Assist with set up and maintenance of research trials in greenhouses, fields, and lab experiments.
+ Collect samples and measurement data from experiments. Implements and maintains data collection and summarization of field trials.
+ Collects, compiles, and record data. Computes quantitates and extends projections.
+ Monitor and test microbial strains for plant pathology and environmental microbiology projects.
+ Isolate and select for bacteria and fungi for bioremediation of environmental contaminants using traditional media-based methods and microscopic techniques.
+ Research literature relating to possible procedures and experiments. Modify procedures to suit the particular research need.
+ Research and catalogs reference materials requiring understanding of subject matter theory.
+ Assists with planning and supervising technical operations.
+ Assists personnel involved in a series of controlled environment or analysis experiments.
+ Makes chemical and physical analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and tests, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation.
+ Ensure cleanliness and organization of the lab, greenhouse, and field research areas.
+ Follow safety protocols and research compliance guidelines.
+ Operates technical/computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.
+ Assist with writing and/or edits for publication scientific materials requiring academic knowledge.
+ Orders scientific supplies and equipment.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
+ High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
+ Two years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
+ Bachelors of Science degree in Bioenvironmental Sciences, environmental studies, or a related field.
+ Two years experience in environmental microbiology, fungal biology, or plant science research.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
+ Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
+ Ability to ensure attention to detail.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
+ Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
+ Ability to exert heavy force.
+ Ability to work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment.
+ Experience in environmental microbiology, fungal biology, or plant-science research.
+ Familiarity with bacteria and fungi identification and monitoring techniques.
+ Understanding of microbiology operations and plant disease management.

As with any position funded through research grants, continuation of the position at any time is contingent upon the availability of funding.
