This position is with the Pittsburgh Girls Study – a 22-year longitudinal, community-based study of young women in the City of Pittsburgh. Several current projects are focused on health during pregnancy and the postpartum period.
The incumbent will be responsible for processing, documenting, and storing biospecimen samples as per study protocols. They will be working in a small team and will need to effectively communicate with team members, collaborators, and the supervisor. This position is expected to be able to provide weekday afternoon/evening and Saturday lab coverage. Our ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, will be self-disciplined, have proficiency in various lab equipment as well as familiarity with lab methodologies and precision measurement, have hands-on experience in a lab setting, have the ability to troubleshoot and solve problems, have good communication skills for documentation and collaboration, have a strong understanding of safety protocols and the ability to respond appropriately in an emergency, and above all – have an interest in science and staying updated on the latest innovations and research in the field.

Responsibilities:
Maintain laboratory inventory, including timely ordering and receipt of required supplies and their proper storage. Maintain a safe clean laboratory-working environment including appropriate equipment maintenance and usage, by conforming to laboratory and Hospital policies and standards. Assist in performing research protocol experimental procedures, under close supervision, including appropriate collection, recording, storage and analysis of data. Prepare, label, store and dispose of reagents and calibrates equipment for research projects. Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function. Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage. Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
