Job Summary

Information and Technology Services (ITS) has an exciting opportunity to hire a Storage Engineer Associate in our Advanced Research Computing (ARC) department. This position will report to the Research Computing Manager.
 

This position will be a part of a team working on the portfolio of storage systems within ARC. The primary responsibilities will be to assist in the development, deployment, maintenance and support of storage services for archive and active storage. These include IBM Spectrum Scale/GPFS file systems on High Performance Computing (HPC) clusters, EMC/Isilon NAS, and a Tape Archive Service. Finally, they will also participate in developing storage solutions for HPC in the Cloud. This position will primarily be a remote/work from home position.

Responsibilities*

User Support

Support users access to ARC storage systemsSupport the high performance transport of data over national and local networksRespond to User RequestsSupport researchers use of storage systems from external providers (Cloud, Central IT)

Research Storage Support

Storage system updates and patchesSystem configurationSystem health and performance monitoringProvisioning and destruction of media
 

System Planning

Monitor usage of storage resources and make recommendations to maintain service.Work with other ARC-TS staff for data center utilizationMaintain inventory of storage resources under ARC-TS management
 

Development of Self

Keep abreast of application technology trends in storage infrastructure and environments (Computers, accelerators, system management methods, etc.) This can include: on-the-job training, attending technical courses or conferences, reading, researching, and testingRequired Qualifications*Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification or experience.Minimum of 2 year experience in a related role requiring customer service, confidentiality, timeliness, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, and working independently to successfully design services and workflows.Minimum of 1 year experience in the use of appropriate tools to perform day-to-day administration tasks, root-cause analysis and service restoration (such as backup, restore, failover, log interpretation, and performance monitoring) in an IT environment.Demonstrated effective creative problem solving and flexibility when collaborating with customers, team members, support teams, external vendors, and technical organizations to understand, advocate for, evaluate, and support enhancements, resulting in plans and services that leverage the capabilities of existing technology and meet customer and organizational expectations.Demonstrated effective verbal communication skills including strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively through all levels of management and matrix organizationsDemonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers in a manner that consistently meets the organization's expectations for exemplary customer service.Excellent organizational, analytical and independent problem-solving skillsAbility to influence others in the building and maintaining consensual approach with a wide array of diverse business interestsDesired Qualifications*Experience with IT support of a storage system, including any of the following: GPFS/Spectrum Scale, EMC OneFS (Isilon), Object Storage, HDFS, SMB/CIFS or NFS.Understanding of protected data (HIPAA, CUI, etc.)Experience in a high-performance computing cluster environment.Experience with LDAP and Active Directory.Experience providing IT support in an academic or research environmentExperience with a programming or scripting languageModes of Work
