Ph. D, M.D, D.O., or D.V.M in related field and no experience required.

Job Description:

Conducts innovative scientific investigation by developing theories and devising scientific methods and procedures to apply scientific principles, theories and research in projects related to the mission of UTMB.  Committed to the discovery of new innovative biomedical and health services knowledge leading to increasingly effective and accessible health care. Assures competence as a fully trained scientist in a specific discipline or area of expertise.

 

Job Duties will include but are not limited to:

- Design and plan research experiments aligned with the objectives of the laboratory’s USDA grants (e.g., tick ecology, spillover risk)

- Design and conduct fieldwork for One Health research

- Ensure experiments comply with safety, ethical, and quality standards

- Participate in maintaining live resources: arthropod colonies, cell lines, bacterial strains

- Develop and obtain approvals for laboratory and fieldwork protocols

- Contribute to the PI’s research proposal

- Develop research proposals as a lead with the PI

- Write progress reports and peer-reviewed scientific papers

- Contribute to the mentoring of junior staff and students

- Participate in weekly lab meetings and 1-on-1 meetings with the PI
