Family Description
Pure Research (PR) comprises fundamental systematic research of exploratory nature for the development of new products and services as well as disruptive technologies superseding conventional approaches. In contrast to applied R&D, PR covers the provision of a comprehensive understanding of scientific insights without directed application towards products, policies, or operational processes.
Subfamily Description
Research & Innovation (RIN) comprises the conduction of extensive fundamental scientific research on a particular field of expertise aiming at fuller, more complete knowledge and understanding of the fundamental aspects of a concept or a phenomenon. Covers encouragement of disruptive innovations and the provision of novel solutions while building up robust intellectual property for Nokia.
Impact
Accountable for quality and accuracy of own output, with supervision from advisors. Expected to contribute to team efforts. Usually delivers theoretical results focused on scientific innovation, with limited impact on others.
Scope & Contribution
Individual Contributor: Participates as individual contributor to team, usually with limited professional expertise. Makes decisions affecting own work within set parameters, elevates others. Reviews priorities with supervisor. Makes decisions that affect own work.
Innovation
Exploratory research tasks of moderate to high complexity. Carries out tasks/activities under supervision of their advisors. Moderate degree of supervision and coaching needed. Demonstrates initiative and adaptability to changing scientific environments.
Communication
Explains facts, practices, policies, etc. to external and internal parties. Takes actions which respect to the needs and contributions of others and reaches agreement through flexibility and compromise. Manages situations where there is a common desire to reach solution within a team. Builds cross-cultural knowledge and global mindset.
Knowledge & Experience
A strong understanding of quantum sciences, namely in the domain of quantum communications (EPR experiment, CHSH inequality, etc.) and distributed algorithms (LOCAL and CONGEST models, byzantine agreement problem, etc.), typically acquired during their academic studies.
Research oriented student with an MSc degree, with no or limited professional experience outside of course-work in science or engineering. Performs routine research tasks that require application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria. Drives their own research, with supervision and advice from their academical and industrial advisors.
