Research Scientist

University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology department, The Betegon Lab (https://betegonlab.org) and Byrne lab ((https://byrnelab.science) are seeking a research scientist to work on the development of novel AAV technologies to enable efficient gene therapies.

The candidate must have a PhD in biophysics, biochemistry, biology, structural biology, or related field. Demonstrated extensive experience with protein expression in bacterial or mammalian cells and FPLC protein purification is required. Experience with in-vitro protein characterization and functional assays such as Fluorescence Polarization and ATPase assays is highly desired. Previous experience working with AAV is not required.

Conducts independent scientific research projects from inception to presentation. Prepares and crafts various documentations of research results into manuscripts, proposals, grant applications, and presentations. Trains undergraduates and research technicians. Manages laboratory policies and coordinates project development in collaboration with other specialists.

The researcher will assist in the design, development and evaluation of these novel AAV systems, present research findings at meetings, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts.
