Research Scientist

DuPont Water & Protection, Water Solutions (DWS) is a $1.4 Bn water technology leader, focused on solving global challenges in water purification, conservations and reuse. DWS serves its thousands of customers in diverse industries through four major market segments - Residential/Commercial, Industrial, Municipal, and Life Sciences and Specialties - using multiple technologies from its portfolio across major geographies of the world.  

The Ion Exchange Resins segment of the Water Solutions business unit is seeking applicants for a Research Investigator. This individual will work to develop and deliver product, process and applications technology innovation to solve real world problems across a broad spectrum of end markets. The successful candidate will be an active laboratory scientist and will work closely with technical colleagues, commercial and marketing representatives, and manufacturing teams. This role will report into the R&D organization. 

We are seeking a recent doctoral graduate who is highly motivated, particularly in the early stages of their career. Training in our core ion exchange resin technology will be provided.  

This role will be part of the R&D group in the Water Solutions business and will be located at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington, DE.  

Responsibilities:

•    Conducting work in the lab developing and testing new products and new applications
•    Working with ion exchange resins to overcome processing and purification challenges
•    Working with and leading teams of scientists and engineers to deliver project goals
•    Working with colleagues across functions (e.g. marketing, sales, and technical service) to drive new products from the lab to the market
•    Analyzing data and presenting results, conclusions and recommendations to stakeholders and management
•    Managing a laboratory, including having primary responsibility for several pieces of process and analytical equipment as well as safety and procedural documentation.
•    Demonstrating a high commitment to safety in all aspects of the role

Qualifications:
•    Doctoral degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or a closely related field.
•    0-4 years of industrial experience, including full time employment, industrial postdoc, or experience as an intern in an industrial environment as an undergraduate or graduate student.
•    Time management and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
•    Strong interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence for effective participation in and leadership of project teams.
•    Demonstrated ability to effectively lead teams and take initiative to drive projects forward.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Preferred skills and experience:
•    Experience in polymers, polymer synthesis, and/or polymer characterization 
•    Experience in application development, project leadership, or product development 
•    Exposure to industry, either through internships or full-time employment
•    Familiarity with ion exchange resin technology
