Research Scientist, Perceptual Audio
**Summary:** Meta Reality Labs Research has embarked on an exciting mission to build the next computing platform in augmented and virtual reality systems. Our goals are to eliminate distance, make people more productive, replace physical objects, and give people the tools to feel more connected anytime and anywhere. We believe that a key component of this mission is to improve and enhance human hearing. We are looking for an innovative Research Scientist to join our growing interdisciplinary team, working to solve exciting problems at the intersection of hearing, acoustics, mechanical design, auditory perception, spatial audio, and signal processing. In this role, you will focus on performing applied research towards advanced models for audio applications on Smart Glasses / AR technology. The suitable candidate will have technical skills and experience in perceptual audio evaluation, sensory evaluation and audio signal processing in application to a range of audio and speech processing technologies. **Required Skills:** Research Scientist, Perceptual Audio Responsibilities: 1. Conduct research with expertise, consumer, and crowd panels evaluating the latest development in audio and immersive audio technology to ensure consumer acceptance 2. Collaborate with a team of experts to develop state of the art approaches to data collection using crowd sourcing and other methods 3. Establish protocols and collaborative partnerships for executing large scale perceptual evaluation experiments, 4. Use existing and/or develop novel statistical analysis methods to gain maximum insight into the collected data to benefit product development **Minimum Qualifications:** Minimum Qualifications: 5. Advanced degree in acoustics, perception, hearing science, audio engineering, psychoacoustics, or a related field with an emphasis on perceptual evaluation, psychoacoustics, and/or metrics evaluating perceptual performance 6. 2+ years of experience with statistical analysis tools (R, Matlab, SPSS, SAS, XLStat, etc.) 7. Experience with perceptual evaluation, listening tests, sensory evaluation 8. Experience in Machine Learning, Acoustic Modeling, and acoustic feature extraction 9. Good communication skills and experience in presenting results internally and at conferences + experience in Journal publication 10. Comfofortable with remote collaboration 11. Fluent in both English and Mandarin **Preferred Qualifications:** Preferred Qualifications: 12. PhD in hearing science, acoustics, acoustic engineering, perceptual psychology, psychoacoustics, neuroscience, or a related field with an emphasis on perceptual evaluation, psychoacoustics/physics, and/or metrics evaluating perceptual performance 13. 2+ years of postdoctoral training, or industry experience conducting research investigating audio quality or audio perception 14. 2+ years of experience with statistical analysis tools (R, Matlab, SPSS, SAS, XLStat, etc.) 15. 4+ years of experience with perceptual evaluation tools and methods, listening tests and/or sensory evaluation 16. Familiarity with commonly standardized and advanced perceptual audio evaluation techniques, with extensive hands-on experience 17. Significant experience with running perceptual evaluation experiments, leading assessor’s panels, and designing novel experimental methods 18. Extensive experience with expert/crowd sourcing data collection 19. Experience with traditional statistical modelling techniques (regression, ML-based, etc.) 20. Knowledge of audio processing techniques relating to spatial sound, distortion, etc 21. Experience with design of experiment techniques 22. Industry experience is a plus **Industry:** Internet
