RESEARCH SCHOLAR New York University Tandon School of Engineering The NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Research Scholar to work with Prof. Nana Obayashi. Tandon fosters student and faculty innovation and entrepreneurship that make a difference in the world. Prof. Obayashi’s research focuses on studying embodied intelligence through robots, specifically developing bio-inspired robots that interact with and exploit the fluid environment. This is accomplished through developing novel robotic platforms and leveraging methods such as large-scale experimentation, data-driven design optimization, and fluids analysis. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering’s research is breaking new ground in robotics and automation, additive manufacturing, nanotechnology and materials engineering, computational engineering, biomechanics, and healthcare applications. Expectations Candidates will be responsible for conducting research at the intersection of soft robotic design/fabrication and design/optimization methodologies. This includes: + Design and fabrication of --- + Collect data on --- + Conduct validation, testing of --- + Perform data analysis of --- + Contribute to peer-reviewed journal/conference publications. + Collaborate with others in Dr. Obayashi’s lab. + Salary range In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $54,600 depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification. Expected start date and period of employment Expected start date is January 15. This is a full time position (35 hours per week). This position is expected to be for 6 months. Candidates should have at least a Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering or related field with hands-on experience in robotics and/or research. Candidates from all research backgrounds are welcome – for example, mechanical engineering, bioengineering, computer science, material science, etc. In addition, interest in photography and art is a plus. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background as exemplified by a strong publication record in venues such as but not limited to IEEE RAL/RAM/ICRA/IROS/RoboSoft, Nature profiles, Science profiles, etc. Applicants should submit the following information: ● Cover letter ● up-to-date CV that includes a complete list of publications, ● names and contact information for three references.
