Job Summary

A full-time technician position is available in the Baucom lab in the EEB Dept at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. General research in the laboratory addresses plant adaptation to environmental stresses. Duties will include working at the University's main campus, in the nearby greenhouses, at nearby field sites, and will include travel for field experiments.

Responsibilities*

Large growth chamber, greenhouse and field studies (50%) - assist other technicians and postdoctoral researchers in managing greenhouse experiments to monitor plant adaptation to environmental stress. By regular weeding, assisting with germplasm collections, and maintaining plant populations. This includes planting experiments and maintaining them at either the greenhouses at MBGNA or in the growth rooms at the BSB.


Data Collection/Management (40%) - The technician will play a key role in managing experimental logistics and maintaining critical records and supplies for time-sensitive projects. The technician will be responsible for collecting data and maintaining spreadsheets throughout the research.


Mentor 1-2 undergraduate students (10%)

Required Qualifications*

High school diploma or Associate's degree and 1 to 2 years experience. Must possess strong organizational skills and previous experience performing research in a wet lab is required. Must work well independently as well as in a group.  Demonstrated experience / willingness to supervise a team is also required. 
Candidate should be proficient at data input, manipulation, description, and visualization; preference for candidates with experience performing all data related tasks in R. Must have personal transportation and possess a valid driver's license. 

Desired Qualifications*

Experience with basic molecular techniques such as DNA isolation and PCR is desired.
