**Responsibilities***
**1. Design and perform experiments with lab members**
This role requires active engagement in experimental research, including planning, execution, and analysis. Responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with principal investigators and lab members to design hypothesis-driven, scientifically sound experiments.
- Contributing to experimental design by reviewing relevant literature and proposing methodologies.
- Performing laboratory procedures in accordance with established protocols and scientific objectives.
- Troubleshooting experimental challenges and optimizing protocols as needed.
- Participating in lab meetings to discuss data, interpret results, and refine research approaches.
**2. Work comfortably with rodent models**
This role involves direct handling of laboratory rodents (primarily mice) and requires adherence to ethical animal research standards.
Duties include:
- Handling and caring for rodents in compliance with institutional animal care and use guidelines (IACUC).
- Performing rodent procedures such as behavioral testing, injections (e.g., intraperitoneal, subcutaneous), tissue or blood collection,
and surgeries, as required by the study.
- Monitoring animal health and welfare throughout the experimental timeline.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of procedures, animal usage, and experimental outcomes.
**3. Prepare experimental reagents**
Responsible for the preparation and management of reagents to support ongoing research. Tasks include:
- Preparing chemical, biological, or biochemical reagents following standard protocols or experimental needs.
- Properly labeling, aliquoting, and storing reagents to ensure quality and reproducibility.
- Maintaining sterility and proper handling practices to prevent contamination.
- Recording reagent details such as preparation dates, batch numbers, and expiration dates **.**
**4. Manage lab inventory, ordering, and documentation**
Supports laboratory operations by ensuring resources and documentation are well-maintained. Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring and replenishing lab supplies and consumables.
- Ordering and tracking lab materials from approved vendors.
- Managing inventory systems to ensure accurate stock levels.
- Organizing and updating lab protocols, SOPs, safety data sheets (SDS), and other research documentation.
- Ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards for safety and record-keeping
- Coordinating maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment as needed.
**Required Qualifications***
Bachelor's degree minimum with at least 2 years of prior research experience. Excellent attention to detail, ability to communicate clearly and effectively, ability to take initiative, to work autonomously, and to remain self-motivated, ability to prioritize tasks, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ability to work in a team. Curiosity, positive attitude, compassion, and willingness to learn.
**Desired Qualifications***
Master's Degree. Previous knowledge and experience with U of M policies and procedures.

This position is located at the School of Dentistry at NCRC Building at 2800 Plymouth Rd. Ann Arbor, MI 48109.
**Additional Information**
This is a one-year term limited appointment, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and continued available funding.
