Your role and responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support the strategic technology direction by contributing your own ideas for identifying, proposing, and implementing innovative technology, software and solutions. Each day, you will work with the Switching research team by executing your assigned tasks and using technical knowledge in a structured way. You will get the chance to showcase your expertise by staying abreast of the state of the art and actively applying this knowledge to improve lab infrastructure, software tools and testing methods.

The main responsibilities include

Running and maintaining state-of-the-art electrical test labs for high voltage and high currentsDefining, designing, and implementing new testing concepts and supporting applied research in the area of switchgear while contributing to the planning, setup, and execution of experimentsDeveloping new technologies for sustainable protection solutions in upcoming applications of switchgear, e.g. for grid integration of renewable energies, integration of energy storage or microgridsClosely cooperate with scientists and engineers from ABBs research centers, global ABB divisions, and universities

Qualifications for the role

Experience in practical laboratory work, prototyping, including experimental setup, advanced measurement techniques and data analysisKnowledge of and experience in lab-integrated programming (LabView, Python, Matlab) is highly advantageousA background in high-power testing is beneficial but not a mustKnowledge of designing and fabricating printed circuit board is beneficial but not a mustA collaborative, solution-focused approach, with strong written and spoken communication skills, as well as relationship-building skillsMaster in Electrical Engineering or bachelor with significant lab experienceFluency in English (min. C1) is required.
