Research Intern - Hematopoietic Biology & Malignancy (Dr. Xufeng Chen's Lab)
Two Research Intern positions are available in the Department of Hematopoietic Biology and Malignancy, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX, United States. The position reports to Dr. Xufeng Chen in the Department of Hematopoietic Biology and Malignancy. Dr. Chen's lab at MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) is interested in dissecting the cancer-associated immune evasion mechanisms, establishing their connections with treatment efficacy, and reversing immune evasion to improve outcomes. To achieve this goal, we integrate various cutting-edge experimental and computational approaches in the areas of functional genomics, cell biology, biochemistry, single cell/spatial multi-omics, data mining, drug screening, and disease modeling. *LEARNING OBJECTIVES* The Research Intern will receive training and conduct research at the broad intersection of cancer biology and immunology, which will help build a strong portfolio for their future career development. The Research Intern will cultivate a deep understanding of cancer immunology and immunotherapies by exploring T-cell-mediated immunity against leukemia. They will gain hands-on experience in experimental execution, study design, and data analysis using advanced methodologies. To strengthen critical thinking and collaborative skills, the intern will actively participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and research seminars. They will also refine scientific communication through manuscript development and presentations. In collaboration with MDACC's specialized cores, the intern will contribute to the development of innovative strategies to enhance targeted and immune-based therapies. Additionally, they will also benefit from collaborations with Dr. Chen's former colleagues at various institutes. Dr. Chen is deeply committed to the professional fulfillment and career advancement of all trainees and will operate with the primary goal of fostering career growth and development. Mentorship will be mutually planned and an individually tailored approach for each member of the team and will also involve an extended committee of senior faculty members across multiple disciplinary fields to ensure full success. *ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS* Highly motivated individuals who have obtained or are about to obtain a bachelor's or master's degree. The applicant's degree must have been obtained recently (within one year). Applicant must have previous research experience.
