Research Assistant II - Neuroradiology Department
*MISSION STATEMENT* The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public. *SUMMARY* The primary purpose of the Research Assistant II is to work with the Associate Director, of Research Planning and Development to oversee the daily laboratory and functional areas for the Department of Neuroradiology and to provide support to all laboratory personnel. The Laboratory Coordinator will be responsible for supporting the daily operations of a small diagnostic research lab in neuroradiology. This position is integral to the smooth functioning of the lab, ensuring that research activities are conducted efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate should have excellent organizational skills with a particular ability to prioritize work in an environment with multiple interests. Flexibility, and willingness to take on assignments are essential. Knowledge of research equipment and techniques preferred. Skills in both verbal and written communication *JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES* Experimental Support & Research Assistance • Assist in conducting diagnostic research experiments, including sample preparation, imaging studies, and data collection. • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records, including protocols, methodologies, and results. • Operate and maintain imaging and analytical equipment used in neuroradiology research. • Collaborate with researchers and investigators to troubleshoot experiments and optimize protocols. • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and institutional guidelines while conducting experiments. • Experience with animal handling, animal imaging and mouse models of Cancer. • Cultures and maintains tissue culture cells in a biological safety hood and clean incubator. Must maintain steady arm and hand movements. Inventory & Equipment Management • Serves as property controller for all inventoried laboratory equipment. • Maintain an organized inventory of lab supplies, reagents, and consumables. • Monitor supply levels and place timely orders to ensure uninterrupted research activities. • Maintain records of equipment maintenance, calibration, and service schedules. • Coordinate with vendors and institutional procurement for purchasing and servicing of lab equipment. • Assist in capital equipment tracking, including budgeting and documentation of major lab assets. • Maintains and updates equipment manuals and records and resolves missing equipment issues. • Ensures all new equipment is properly tagged before use and assists with Asset Transfer paperwork for interdepartmental equipment exchanges. • Removes malfunctioning equipment from service and oversees repairs and maintenance of equipment via vendors, Biomedical Engineering, or Biosafety. Lab Space & Compliance Management • Maintain the overall cleanliness, organization, and safety of the lab environment. • Ensure lab compliance with institutional policies, biosafety regulations, and radiation safety guidelines. • Assist in preparing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety documentation. • Initiates and completes work request forms for lab repairs or modifications and provides cost estimates for requested changes. • Coordinate lab inspections and audits, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards. • Oversees and maintains proper storage of chemicals and biological reagents per regulations. • Maintains records of safety training. General Lab Operations • Order all lab supplies for PIs and reconcile with the Associate Financial Analyst • Assist in organizing and documenting lab meetings, research presentations, and collaborations. • Manage lab data organization and ensure proper archiving of research materials. • Support grant applications and regulatory submissions by providing necessary lab-related data and documentation. • Communicate effectively with the principal investigator, faculty, and administrative staff to facilitate smooth lab operations. Other Duties Assigned *REQUIREMENTS* Education Required: Bachelor's degree in basic science. Preferred Education: Master's Level Degree in basic science. Certification Required: None Preferred Certification: None Experience Required: 1 year of Scientific or experimental research work experience. Preferred Experience: 3 years of Scientific or experimental research work experience. No experience required with a preferred degree. Onsite Presence: Required This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening.
