WEEKEND & NIGHTSIDE MMJ/REPORTER POSITION


The MMJ/reporter shoots, writes, and edits news stories from broadcast. Sometimes those stories will be presented live, either in the field or in the studio. The ideal candidate will have the ability to present relevant, important news stories in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to news viewers on our broadcast and online platforms.   
 

Candidate Must Have Ability To:

Work weekend, evening, and overnight hoursReport news stories for broadcast, describing the background and details of eventsArrange on-camera interviews with people who can provide information about storiesReview copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelinesReview and evaluate notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and detailsWork with producers and newsroom managers to determine a story’s emphasis, length, and format and organize materials accordinglyResearch and analyze background information related to news stories to be able to provide complete and accurate informationPitch stories to newsroom managers and news producers which are relevant to the communityReceive assignments and evaluate leads and tips to develop story ideasGather information about events through research, interviews, experience or attendance at political, news, sports, artistic, social or other functionsDiscuss issues with producers and news managers to establish priorities or positionsCheck reference materials such as books, news files, or public records to obtain relevant factsRevise work to meet editorial approval or to fit time requirementsShot and edit video for news reports both on broadcast and online platformsEnsure that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production qualityWrite stories for the web and other online platformsInteract with viewers/users on social media sitesPerform special projects and other duties as assigned

Additional Requirements & Skills:

Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experienceFluency in EnglishExcellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when requiredAbility to operate camera and editing equipmentProficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines and other office equipmentAbility to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneouslyAbility to work well in a group or individual settingValid driver’s license with a good driving recordFlexibility to work any shift
