Reporter, Dow Jones Newswires in the Middle East Dow Jones Newswires is seeking two reporters to cover business, finance, economics and markets across the Middle East. Based in Doha, the reporters will be part of a region-wide team supporting the Newswires’ wider EMEA news operations. Fund manager allocations to the region are rising at a rapid clip, and the Mideast’s private equity houses and institutional investors are playing a bigger role in global deal making. Newswires is seeking reporters with proven track records of scoops and source-building, who can get inside the big financial bets that are shaping asset classes across the region – from equities to fixed income and commodities. The reporters will be expected to break news on capital flows and PE executive moves and conduct exclusive interviews with corporate, banking and PE executives and regional fund managers. Our subscriber base is particularly interested in private markets and energy news from the region.While this will be just part of the job, successful candidates will be expected to be able to source up quickly and deliver scoops in these areas. The reporters will also be expected to contribute to our daily global news report. This part of the job includes identifying important, forward-looking details from a fast-moving stream of information related to regional companies, central banks and other business-news making entities. The foundation of this part of the job will be turning that disclosure into informative, punchy headlines and short articles in English. Another major part of the role would be to quickly analyze news and the signals it provides to investors. This takes the initial form of short, quick-fire analysis, followed by slightly longer-form articles and/or analysis that include more detail, and extends to more expansive and thematic items in due course. Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgment and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume news environment where teamwork and communication skills will be hugely important. Excellent written English is essential. Proficient Arabic is preferred, but not required. You will: + Break news – big and small scoops that will drive professional readership interested in this subject to our Newswires. + Be able to tap existing sourcing or demonstrate an ability to build sourcing in the interest of breaking news. + Exercise exceptional news judgment to identify disclosed news of importance to professionals, with ability to efficiently prioritize and summarize into smart briefs and subsequent analysis of what the news means for investors, extracting from a wealth of available content. + Recognize and respond to the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires, and their needs and expectations. + Collaborate with reporters and editors from other groups, including Dow Jones Newswires, WSJ and other Dow Jones colleagues and those in other bureaus and regions. + Communicate precisely and respectfully. + Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics.
