What's the role?
We are looking for an experienced reporter to join the outstanding News.com.au team in Sydney.
News.com.au is Australia’s leading commercial news site, delivering the biggest news events, from here and the world, and reaching an average monthly audience of over 11.2 million. This exclusively digital news room is powered by a team of more than 60 dedicated journalists reporting the news across multiple platforms including desktop, mobile, social, podcasts and our app.
Key Responsibilities:
Source, write, and produce compelling journalism that will be read by millions of Australians
Work with a news director, news editors and team of reporters
Cover national and global breaking news, from on the scene and in the office
Focus on high quality original content, and using video to find new ways to tell stories visually
Use analytics to inform story choices
Pitch and deliver unique content that will drive conversation, engagement and click-throughs across multiple platforms
Some weekend shifts and work outside of usual hours
Who are you?
Successful news reporter with at least three years experience in a busy digital newsroom
Passionate about breaking stories and finding exclusive angles on the topics dominating the national agenda
Highly motivated and full of ideas, with strong contacts that help you break yarns
Strong writing skills and an understanding of how to use headlines and pictures to hook readers. A desire to have your stories widely-read is a must
Sound working legal knowledge
Comfortable working independently and sourcing your own stories
An interest in engaging with and ‘owning’ the topics news.com.au readers love
Understand SEO and analytics
