REMOTE Assistant Accountant (IA/WI/IL ONLY)

Remote Assistant Accountant

Candidates must reside in Iowa, Western Illinois (Quad Cities area), or Wisconsin.

Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and Excel-proficient Assistant Accountant to support a high-impact financial reconciliation and clean-up initiative in preparation for a major system transition. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in structured, manual processes and enjoys working with data to ensure accuracy and integrity across financial records.

Key Responsibilities:

Tackle a significant backlog of unbalanced financial days through a manual reconciliation process.Run and re-run daily financial reports to identify and resolve discrepancies.Collaborate closely with the Central Billing Office (CBO) and internal teams to validate and track changes.Support Epic payment posting reviews and insurance-related reconciliations.Maintain detailed documentation of findings, adjustments, and unresolved variances.Communicate recurring issues to the accounting team and assist in root cause analysis.Complete monthly reconciliations and ensure outstanding items are resolved by month-end.Maintain accurate logs of repayments and monitor progress.Identify opportunities to improve financial workflows and contribute to process enhancements.

Qualifications:

1–2 years of experience or internship in accounting, finance, or data reconciliation.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred (not required).High attention to detail and ability to follow structured, repetitive processes.Strong communication and collaboration skills.Experience working in a multi-million dollar organization.

Preferred Experience:

Familiarity with Epic and Lawson or similar healthcare financial systems.Understanding of insurance payment processes and billing workflows.Ability to adapt to evolving processes and contribute to continuous improvement.

Work Environment & Location:

Monday through Friday schedule.Flexible work environment – remote BUT candidates must reside in Iowa, Western Illinois (Quad Cities area), or Wisconsin.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.
