What’s the role?
As a successful candidate, you will be committed to the Safe, Reliable, and Efficient operation of Shell Houma Marine Terminal and Houma Tank Farm. You will safely perform day-to-day operation activities to ensure reliable operations which meet all regulatory criteria and transportation of Crude Oil. This position reports to Zydeco/Houma Sr. Operations Supervisor.
What you’ll be doing
Monitor pipeline equipment such as meters, process flows, tank levels, and computer systems
Regulate product flow through pipelines, tank farms, and marine terminals as assigned, following prescribed procedures, standards, and regulations
Work closely with various stakeholders (Control Center, Scheduling, and customers)
Maintain safety awareness and actively observe for abnormal or dangerous situations that could result in a release or unsafe condition
Perform all work in a safe manner to achieve Goal Zero
Follow scheduling orders and conduct pipeline lineups for delivery/receipt of product to/from pipelines, tanks, tankers, truck racks, etc.
Monitor instrumentation and product movement for variations outside of prescribed procedures
Perform required inspections and record keeping throughout the work schedule (gauging, meter proving, station inspections, tank inspections, pipeline inspections, etc.)
Perform stock accounting, manual gauging, temperature verification, and calibration
Conduct facility surveillance by adhering to the Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan, Local Operations Procedures (LOPs), site checklists, and remain on-call 24 hours for release prevention, security, and general housekeeping
Collaborate with stakeholders (Control Center, Scheduling, and customers) to resolve scheduling conflicts and communicate any equipment issues that could impact the ability to meet scheduling orders
Validate and calibrate testing equipment before use
Conduct crude or product testing, including pulling samples according to measurement procedures established in the measurement manual using the last batch method or sample thief; perform sample testing for gravity and sediment and water (S&W) using the appropriate certified hydrometer, thermometers, and centrifuge tubes; and establish sampling amounts per batch size per established methods
Manage LACT (Liquid Automatic Custody Transfer) Unit Measurement to accurately measure product quantity used for customer billing and invoicing; analyze batch and meter run tickets, sample testing, and run ticket calculations; and use OMNI flow computers to provide pertinent data on tickets.
Consolidate custody transfer information and enter it into the appropriate system
Coordinate LACT schedules with customers
Participate in Loss/Gain meetings to provide information for troubleshooting Loss/Gain issues; complete inventory sheets for the designated system to support troubleshooting
Review and follow Local Operating Procedures
Comply with all Federal, State, and Local regulations; Operator Qualifications; Measurement Policies & Procedures; HSSE training and standards; and all other applicable regulations (e.g., AQMD, SPCC, Hazmat, RCRA, Weights and Measures, etc.)
Support and participate in LEAN processes, audits, inspections, and other company-sponsored initiatives
Support facility housekeeping
Adapt duties based on product, location, and on/offshore requirements
You will be considered as an "individual contributor" position; however, there are situations where it is necessary to work with other facility personnel and customers to successfully complete tasks and responsibilities. You will work with Shell Project Teams on specific initiatives. Additionally, much of the work is self-driven; teamwork is a must within this group.
You will be on a team supporting the pipelines, tank farms, stations, terminals, and other pipeline facilities within the assigned geographic area.
Also, your position is represented by the United Steel, Paper, and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union and its Affiliated Local 13-2003.
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US
Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as a Terminal or Pipeline Operator
Require high school diploma or equivalent; prefer AA degree in Process Technology
Must have a valid driver’s License
Must be able to obtain a TWIC card
Must be able to obtain a HAZWOPER/OPA 90 First Responder Certificate
Must be able to meet the requirements to obtain a Forklift Operator Certification
Experience working in an environment supporting oil or product movement and applying analysis
Experience with product blending
Experience with sample testing and measurement
Experience demonstrating safe work practices and compliance in a hazardous work environment
Report to work whenever requested and work extended hours if required
When on-call, must be able to respond to emergencies within 60 minutes
Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays when necessary
Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions in summer and winter, as well as working and driving in highly congested traffic areas on city streets
Work outdoors for extend periods of time
Tangible Skills and Experiences:
Have a working knowledge of sampling and measurement equipment, conducting tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
Experience using mathematics and applying formulas in measurement calculations
Required experience in conducting Job Hazard Analysis
Preferred experience in obtaining and issuing Work Permits
Preferred experience in applying Lockout/Tag Out
Must have proficiency in working on a computer, using standard operating programs, and entering information into systems
Must be proficient in planning, coordinating, and executing work plans and preventative and reactive maintenance programs
Must demonstrate written and verbal communication skills required to work well and influence others
Must have experience working in an environment which requires multi-tasking and the continuous re-prioritization of work tasks due to the demand of keeping systems safe and operational
Physical Capability:
Daily activities may include moderate lifting, bending, sitting, kneeling, squatting, standing, walking on uneven ground, climbing, twisting, pulling and pushing
Must be able to climb tanks over 50 feet high on a regular basis multiple times per day

The rate for this position is $45.37. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, and internal equity.
